E.L. Carter has been appointed manager of the Chattanooga Sears, Roebuck and Co. store, succeeding R.A. Strauss who is now manager of Sears Pnnce de Leon store in Atlanta.

Employees of DuPont’s Chattanooga Nylon plant, now numbering more than 4,300, will establish a world’s record for industrial safety if they work 16 more days without a disabling injury. On June 12, the plant will have reached a total of 38,004,394 man hours without a lost-time injury.

At the 61st annual commencement exercises at McCallie School, Sunday afternoon, 162 Cadets were presented diplomas and certificates by Dr. J. Park McCallie. Dr. S.J. McCallie presided at the ceremonies and Congressman Bill Brock was the speaker.
Congressman Bill Brock was the principal speaker at the Memorial Day services at National Cemetery. William L. Ray, past commander of American Legion Post 14, conducted the ceremonies.
Dawson B. Harris, Jr., senior vice president of Hamilton National Bank, was elected president and John F. Parry, vice president of Fowler Bros., was elected vice president of the Retail Credit Men’s Association of Chattanooga at the annual meeting of the board at a luncheon in the Read House. George W. Lundy was re-elected secretary-treasurer of the organization which as a total membership of 1,072.

Dr. Edwin S. Lindsey was elected president of the Chattanooga Opera Association for 1966-67 at the board of directors’ luncheon meeting to succeed Thomas Alexander.
Wednesday, June 1
Ira Trivers announced he has obtained a long-term lease on the building at 811 Market St. through to 810 Broad St., as the location of a new quality men’s clothing store that will bear his name. The store will open following a complete remodeling of the building about Sept. 1.
Clowes Ceramic Corp. of Chattanooga has been acquired by Kearney-National, Inc., of St. Louis for a consideration of “close to $3-million cash,” E.J. Clowes, president of the local company, and John Merrill, president of Kearney-National, announced. Clowes Ceramic is a manufacturer of steatite ceramic insulators produced primarily for the electronic, radio, TV, home appliance and automotive fields. Clowes will remain as president of the company.
Thursday, June 2
Joe DeRisio was re-elected chairman of the Chattanooga Housing Authority at the annual meeting of the authority’s board of commissioners, Wednesday. Dr. Edwin F. Chobot, Jr. was re-elected vice-chairman. The board approved the landscaping plan proposed for the Gateway Professional Building on Carter Street by the firm of Derthick and Henley, architects for the project.
Diplomas will be awarded to 375 students at the 59th annual commencement of Central High School Tuesday at 8 p.m., June 7 at Memorial Auditorium. The annual class day program will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the school auditorium.

United States Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas, William A. Rusher, publisher of National Review, and Charles Bartlett, Pulitzer Prize Winning syndicated columnist, are scheduled to be the principal speakers at the 85th annual Tennessee Bar Association Convention to be held here June 8 through June 11.
