Trusted Team brings Keller Williams to Northwest Georgia

Nestled in a short strip mall next to Panera Bread on Battlefield Parkway, a new real estate firm sports two familiar names in the Greater Chattanooga market: Keller Williams and The Trusted Team.

Inside, administrative assistant Callie Wordon is working behind a service counter, surrounded by freshly painted red and gray walls and tasteful modern décor. The Trusted Team logo – which looks like a giant seal of trust – occupies a large portion of the wall behind her, and adult contemporary music is playing in the background. Wordon’s bright smile and cheerful “Hello” add to the relaxing ambience.

Reducing gun violence (while keeping the Second Amendment)
Problems ... and solutions

I wrote this article just after the shootings of July 16, 2015. I chose not to publish it at that time because of the service position I held last year with our local bar association. The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, and are not the opinions of this newspaper or of any association with which I am affiliated.

How to find a professional remodeler
Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga

Remodeling your home is a big decision that requires planning and resources, but doing so can enhance the comfort and look of your home, increase its value, and improve efficiency.

Many remodeling projects are more complicated than the average DIY-er is able to handle, so consider these steps when searching for a professional remodeler:

Nice guys finish first
The Critic's Corner movie review

Some movies get everything right, or at least get enough things right you don't mind the things they get wrong. "The Nice Guys" gets just a few things right, but they were so right, I didn't mind the misfires.

Shane Black is the writer and director of "The Nice Guys." Black is the guy who wrote the first two "Lethal Weapon" movies, "The Long Kiss Goodnight," and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," all of which should put a knowing smile on the face of anyone who loves neo-noir mystery comedies. (He's also the writer and director of "Iron Man 3," but I'm not holding that against him.) Black does two things well: he writes great dialogue, and he nails the modern male friendship, especially the bonding rituals. Think Murtaugh and Riggs (Danny Glover and Mel Gibson) in the "Lethal Weapon" films.

Beer run
I Swear

Last week I wrote a brief account of my high school football career. And that got me to thinking about other memorable high school experiences. A decade or so ago I wrote a column based on Bill Bryson’s “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid” and another book that I was reading at the same time. Both books, I noted, had funny stories about teenage boys stealing alcoholic beverages.

Forget your table manners; sniffing and slurping is the way it’s done
Kay's Cooking Corner

Not long ago I visited a store I have deliberately avoided. You see, I knew that if I ever opened those doors, it would be the end of my rational thinking, and the temptation to purchase various items would overwhelm my ability to keep my American Express card in my wallet. And that is exactly what happened. I visited Saggio Olive Oils and Vinegars in the Chenal Promenade.

Are We There, Yet?

“Pneumonia,” the doctor said. I wasn’t surprised. What did surprise me was the text I received from Karen, our production manager, which came almost the same instance I sent my own text out to her, and others at the office, on my diagnosis.
