The proposed Crossroads Market at Signal Mountain Road is designed to meet the needs of daily commuters, says Houchens Industries, the developer of the project.

In a press release issued May 19, Houchens said the 10,000 square foot market will feature locally grown produce along with well-known name brand products. Located across the street from the disc golf course at the foot of Signal Mountain, the market will also feature local brands such as Fleetwood Coffee, MoonPie, and other Chattanooga brands.

Houchens has requested a traffic study to address any concerns regarding entry into the site, and have received confirmation from the City of Chattanooga that Glendale Drive will not be widened. Located within the city limits of Chattanooga, the market will have no impact on a rumored property tax increase, Houchens said.

In addition, the developers are planning to limit the daily hours of the market from 6 a.m.-11 p.m., limit the loading, delivery, and dumpster hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and ensure the lighting remains on the property and does not “pollute” area properties or neighborhoods.

In addition, an in-store restaurant concept is being determined that will complement, not detract, from other eateries in the area, Houchens said. The developer said its priority is to provide fresh food and easy options for travelers on the daily commute home.

Once open, the Crossroads Market at Signal Mountain Road will employ 40 individuals. The market will also support non-profit organizations.
