Lawyer skillfully handles a variety of legal matters

Some lawyers prefer to make a name for themselves in one area. Others embrace three or four specialties. Still others cast an even wider net and operate a general law practice.

While the latter are sometimes called a “jack of all trades, master of none,” the term does not apply to Chattanooga attorney William Horton, even though he’s practiced general law since 1971. Instead of providing merely competent work in a variety of legal situations, he’s made a name for himself by delivering consistently skillful work, no matter what was involved.

Ethnohistorian publishes first-hand civilian account

Judge Robert McGinley Hooke was racing to save his family. The Union Army had attacked Chattanooga on Aug. 21, 1863; his sons were fighting for the Confederate Army; and as a prominent member of the Southern establishment, he was a wanted man, so he was moving quickly to escape.

Under Analysis
To those about to commence, we salute you

I honestly couldn’t tell you what has been going on in the Levison Towers lately. Nothing seems unusual in the hustle and bustle outside my cubicle door. The law clerks have almost all returned to their respective law schools, ready to start studying anew with little hope of employment after graduation.

Lessons Learned

For some reason, I do not have a large number of pictures from law school.  I don’t know why other than I did not have a cell phone and I do not remember even having a camera back then. I am sure that I did have a camera, I just do not remember having one.  The one picture I do have of law school, was the one taken when I walked across the stage at Barton Colliseum and shook Dean Howard Eisenberg’s hand as he handed me my diploma.

What was happening in Chattanooga in 1961

Saturday, August 19

Seventy-four members of the Chattanooga Boys’ Choir were enrolled for their annual summer camp, held for the first time at Dogwood Lodge, on Opossum Creek near Soddy Daisy. Stephen Ortlip is director of the choir.

Read all about it...
Bragging and braying is determined by the length of the ears.

Mark Twain is one individual whose writings and quotes I have always enjoyed, beginning at an early age. After all these years that his pen been has been silent, I still run across quotes that are so relevant to today’s events and happenings. He once wrote, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble.  It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

Southern Style
Could I borrow a cup of chiggers?

That may sound like a strange question, but after you already have a whole hoard move in on you, what’s a few more? I recently was filming a movie outside Nashville when I noticed that I had an extreme need to reach down a scratch my leg again and again. I wasn’t even filming outside where you might expect them to pay a call. I just had picked the critter up along the way.

“Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in.” – Michael Corleone. The unbearable heat broke at last when a welcome Canadian whisper from Mother Nature was felt throughout the south. With the change, the game of golf could be played as was intended, in stinging rain and 40-mile per hour winds, blowing unimpeded from the North Sea.

I Swear...
On mis-sung lyrics

“Dear Judge Vic, Knowing what a stickler you are for proper word usage and grammar, I had to write …,” the note began. “Oh no,” I thought, remembering the ribbing I received recently about the Lie-Lay-Lain Rule. But this writer had a different angle. “…I had to write about ‘Kathy’s Song,’ the Simon & Garfunkel hit.” I remembered the tune.

Farm Fresh Produce

Summer time is the perfect time to enjoy the fresh local produce that our area offers in abundance. It’s easy to pass roadside stands with the pickings of farms large and small laid out to tempt the passerby. One of the largest permanent and well-stocked roadside fresh produce stands is Linda’s Farm Fresh Produce located on Hwy. 58.

A Day in the Life

Crunch! That’s the sound the bumper on my lovely Nissan Altima made when a nasty, big SUV kissed it last week. I was about to get on the interstate and had to stop suddenly due to a brief traffic jam. Realizing that I had to hit my brakes pretty quickly, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the front end of a GMC. He’s going hit – Crunch! – me.

Brainbuster — Make your brain tingle!

1. The Washington Senators began their American League franchise endeavors in 1901. The franchise had some great Hall of Fame players such as Walter Johnson, Clark Griffith, Bucky Harris, Goose Goslin, Sam Rice, Joe Cronin, and Lefty Gomez. The franchise moved in 1960 to Minnesota. How many World Series did the Washington Senators team win before they moved to Minnesota? 4; 3; 1; 0

Climatologist: Georgia facing 50 percent chance of multi-year drought

Leave it to the Catholic News Service to come up with the best line about the drought that has gripped large portions of the U.S. this summer, including Georgia: “There’s a lot of praying for rain going on, but those prayers have yet to be answered.”

GIG brings law enforcement to address Realtor concerns

The GIG (Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors Informational Gathering) for the month of August not only brought out Realtors from the Women’s Council of Realtors and the GCAR, but also featured two speakers from law enforcement and breakfast from Jason’s Deli.

NSP revitalizes Brainerd, East Chattanooga, Southside

Bridge City Realtor and local business owner Velma Wilson loves her neighborhood of Brainerd. With Brainerd being one of the three areas in Chattanooga, along with East Chattanooga and the Southside, identified as having a high number of foreclosures, Wilson knew she wanted to do whatever she could to help revitalize these properties and thereby revitalize these Chattanooga areas.

Kay's Cooking Corner

Good-bye trusted cookbook – Hello FoodNetwork…

The other day my daughter called around the time most mothers and wives are preparing the evening meal. I asked her what she was having and she said Crab Cakes, which was somewhat funny because I told her we were having Salmon Patties. Seems we were both on the same wavelength that day.

The Critic's Corner
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”

I was on the edge of my seat for nearly all of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” not because the movie was suspenseful or intense, but because it teeters precariously on the verge of camp for two solid hours. I kept waiting for the storyline to take an absurd turn, or for a laughable special effect, or for something unintentionally funny, but none of those things happened.
