BBC anchor to keynote Women’s Leadership Institute event

The Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute has secured Katty Kay, award-winning lead anchor for BBC News America, as the keynote speaker for its 14th annual Impact Leadership Dinner.

The event will take place Feb. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Gina Dhanani, vice president of The Double Cola Company, is the 2019 IMPACT chair.

Kay is the daughter of a British diplomat. She grew up in the Middle East and has lived in Europe, Africa and Asia. Kay settled in Washington, D.C., in the mid-90s. She lives there with her husband and four children.

“It’s important to equip women for leadership roles,” says Dhanani, 2019 Impact chair. “Ms. Kay has compiled compelling information that will help us see the full value of cultivating effective female leaders within organizations.”

Kay is co-author with Claire Shipman of three New York Times bestsellers. The latest, “The Confidence Code for Girls,” was released in April 2018 and debuted at the number one spot on The New York Times bestseller list.

In her first book, “Womenomics,” she examined the workplace revolution and encouraged women to discover a different way of weaving work into their lives – and in the process – create more profitable companies with happier and more productive employees.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled that Ms. Kay has agreed to spend time in our city for some important conversation,” says Kim Shumpert, CWLI executive director. “Our hope is that she’ll open a discussion around what the evidence is saying about the high-quality impact women have on your bottom line when they’re given the tools they need to be confident in their role.”
