The board of directors for Aegis, a foundation that supports law enforcement in Hamilton County, has selected Dr. John Cosgrove as the organization’s president and executive director. He replaces the late Tom Edd Wilson. Cosgrove will lead operations, business planning and development for the organization.
Cosgrove previously served in various positions in the financial industry, including senior vice president at UBS, president of Mellon Bank Financial Advisors and managing director at Merrill Lynch.
Currently, Cosgrove is the chief executive officer for The Leadership Workshop, a company he founded focused on improving leadership in communities. He also owns First Asset Financial, an investment company.
Cosgrove is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was named a distinguished honor graduate from the U.S. Army Ranger School, selected for command in the Presidential Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., and awarded Merrill Lynch Manager of the Year in 1997 and 2000.
Cosgrove also holds a doctorate in leadership from Andrews University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Erlanger’s Appling makes leader list
Becker’s Hospital Review has recognized Elizabeth Appling, chief diversity officer at Erlanger Health System, as one of the “50 great African-American leaders in health care.”
Becker’s singled out Appling for “overseeing efforts to develop a respectful and inclusive culture at Erlanger” and cited for her ability to influence how an organization approaches healthcare and advocate for the next generation of leaders.
Under Appling’s leadership, Erlanger has bolstered its language interpretation services, which now include on-site Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters. During the $50 million expansion of Erlanger East Hospital, Appling sought minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses to secure work with the project.
Appling also has created numerous diversity programs for teens and students within the state and community. She’s received many honors for her efforts in diversity, including the Tennessee Hospital Association’s Diversity Champion Award in 2016.
In addition, she received the 2015 Excellence in Equity Care Award from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, was selected by AHA/THA to present at the Equity Road and Health Forum national summit and achieved national leader status for the Healthcare Equality Index.
An employee of the Erlanger Health System for more than 20 years, Appling previously served as the employee relations representative for the health system. In addition to her role at Erlanger, she serves on numerous national and community organizations, including the Institute for Diversity in Health Management and board.
Parkridge selects Stewart as director
Parkridge Health System has named Siskin Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physiatrist Paula Stewart, M.D., as director of acute inpatient rehabilitation.
Stewart is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and has earned subspecialty board certification in spinal cord injury medicine.
In addition, Stewart has extensive expertise in general physical rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation and comprehensive rehabilitation care of patients with cancer and lymphedema.
As a physiatrist, Stewart treats a broad scope of conditions requiring comprehensive rehabilitation care.
