Hit the trail with Outdoor Chattanooga

With spring fever hitting the Scenic City, the hiking trials in and around Chattanooga are starting to accommodate more feet. To encourage even more people to take advantage of the warmer weather and enjoy the open air, Outdoor Chattanooga in 2018 will host three introductory backpacking adventures on the Cumberland Trail. These hikes will take place March 10-11, April 14-15 and Nov. 10-11.

Experienced guides will accompany hikers every step of the way while providing instruction on the basics of backpacking. Participants will learn how to pack the essentials, set up camp, cook on the trail and more, all while practicing Leave No Trace principles in the backcountry.

The cost is $65 per person, which includes formal instruction, guides along the trail assisting with campsite setup and breakdown, meal prep and cleanup, transportation to and from the trailheads, and the use of backpacking and camping equipment.

Participants must have some hiking experience and be physically able to hike four to six miles per day on a trail rated as moderately strenuous while carrying a pack weighing 25 to 45 pounds.

Children ages 14 and up must be accompanied by a participating adult. Information: 423 643-6888.
