St. Paul’s Artist Series presents Festive Music for Early Brass & Voices featuring the Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble with the St. Paul’s Senior Choir performing music from the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. The concert will take place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh at Pine St., on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the St. Paul’s website (www.stpaulschatt.org/concert-season). Tickets will also be sold at the door on the night of the concert.
Considered among the premiere period instrument ensembles in North America, the WCSE consists of historic brass instrument specialists based in the Washington, D.C. area. The WCSE has been acclaimed for its “beautiful display of virtuosity” (The Washington Post) and “stylish and sonorous performance.” (Richmond Times-Dispatch).
Mardi Gras “Gala”
Chambliss Center for Children will host the 6th Annual Mardi Gras Gala on Friday, Feb. 9 from 7-11 p.m. at Bessie Smith Hall, 200 East M.L. King Blvd. Guests will begin the evening with jazz piano and hurricanes in Preservation Hall, then stroll down Bourbon Street to get their beads and check out the silent auction. They will then step into the French Quarter for Dixieland jazz by the Ralph Miller Quartet and a late-evening deejay and dance party.
The evening will also feature Cajun-inspired fare and the crowning of the Mardi Gras king and queen, who will lead guests in a parade throughout the venue. The event is sponsored by The Mark Hite Team, First Tennessee and Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel.

Mardi Gras “Ball”
The Chattanooga chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will present its annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. In addition to scholarships, the organization will use the funds raised to continue operating its Sista-to-Sista Mentoring Program at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.
Tickets for the Mardi Gras Ball can be purchased from any NCBW member or from Chic Beauty Salon, 3715 Brainerd Road. Seating for eight is reserved. Tickets cost $55 per person and are tax deductible. Attire will be formal.

CSO annual family concert
The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will host its annual family concert, Compose Yourself, on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Volkswagen Conference Center. Big Band Fever
The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will host its annual swing concert, Big Band Fever, on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre. Rescues on the Runway
The Humane Educational Society will host its annual Rescue on the Runway fundraiser Saturday, March 24 at 6 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Guests will may sip complimentary beer or wine while they sample appetizers and bid on an array of silent auction items before sitting down for a three-course meal. During the runway show, guests will have the opportunity to bid on live auction items ranging from vacations to one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Formal attire is required.
