The City Council has approved the final agreement between the Miracle League of Chattanooga and the City of Chattanooga, paving the way for construction to begin on the Miracle Field Sports Complex and Playground at Warner Park.
Chattanooga’s Miracle Field will become one of more than 250 Miracle Fields worldwide that provides those with physical and mental challenges the opportunity to play organized sports, especially baseball, on a specialized surface that is safe for those with mobility issues.
John Germ, chairman of the board of directors for the Miracle League of Chattanooga, says the City of Chattanooga’s allocation of Warner Park and the funding commitment of many local companies, foundations and individuals will allow the league to build the entire proposed project – including the multi-purpose field that was slated to be a second phase.
“The multi-purpose field will lend itself to a multitude of sports and activities including Special Olympics events,” Germ says.
Contracts have been signed with GenTech Construction, the general contractor, PlayCore, which will build the playground, and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, which will manage the Miracle League and its activities.
