Voter registration drives
A taskforce comprised of community leaders and pastors are teaming up to launch GOVoteCHA. Through this nonpartisan effort, organizers will host voter registration rallies throughout the Greater Chattanooga Area to educate residents about the importance of civic participation and to encourage them to register to vote.
The outreach events and voter registration rallies will be held Saturdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the following locations: Sept. 17 – Greater Tucker Baptist Church (1115 N. Moore Road); Sept. 24 – Olivet Baptist Church (740 E. Martin Luther King Blvd.); and Oct. 1 – Westside Baptist Church (4001 Hughes Ave.).
Volunteers, including several attorneys, will be on hand to answer questions, register voters, and update registrations. The registration deadline to vote in this year’s presidential election is Oct. 11, and early voting in Hamilton County begins on Oct. 19. Volkswagen Chattanooga Career Fair
Volkswagen Chattanooga will host an onsite career fair on Friday, Sept. 16 from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The career fair will be held at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Conference Center. Volkswagen Chattanooga is seeking to hire 1,100 new team members between now and April of 2017 as the plant prepares to add production of a new midsize SUV to its Passat production lines. The Volkswagen Conference Center is located at 8001 Volkswagen Dr. Parking is available in the visitor’s lot next to the Conference Center. Chattanooga Zoo hosts GoFest
The City of Chattanooga invites the public to enjoy a free day at the Chattanooga Zoo on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The occasion will be GoFest, a festival celebrating people of all abilities. Activities will include Touch-a-Truck, where children can explore military vehicles, snow plows, and recycling trucks, as well as face painting and photos with costumed characters. GoFest will also showcase civic-minded organizations, businesses, and social service agencies, which will share information on the health, educational, assistive technology, and transportation resources available in Chattanooga. Parking at the zoo will be limited, but there will be several spaces reserved for people who use wheelchairs. Run/Walk for Cammy’s Cause
The Mary Cameron Robinson (MCR) Foundation will host its 11th annual fundraiser, A 5K Run/Walk for Cammy’s Cause, on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Ross’s Landing. The event will honor the memory of Mary Cameron “Cammy” Robinson. After losing Cammy 11 years ago to complications stemming from a 14-year battle with eating disorders, her family and friends host the 5K Run/Walk every September. The proceeds will support the programs of the MCR Foundation, which focuses on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders. Register at www.mcrfoundation.com.
Creative Discovery Museum fundraiser
Creative Discovery Museum’s annual fundraiser, AmuseUm, will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. Guests will experience a slow-motion mirror, race robotic spheres through an obstacle course, and enjoy food from Lee Towery Catering, dancing on the roof, and music from Sound Force Entertainment. Cast Iron Cookoff
The annual Cast Iron Cookoff will take place at the Chattanooga Market on Sunday, Sept. 18. Five of Chattanooga’s top chefs will create sustainable seafood dishes with ingredients sourced at the market. Toastmasters Open House
