Miss Barbara Forsyth Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Clay Evans Johnson, was crowned queen of the 34th Annual Cotton Ball Friday night at Maclellan Gymnasium at the University of Chattanooga. T. Allen Lupton, Jr., president of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, was crowned king. One hundred four cotton belles were presented to the royal pair.
James C. Dorschel will return to Chattanooga as manager of the Du Pont Nylon plant effective Sept. 1. He will succeed Robert A. Kasey, Jr., plant manager here since January 1965, who has been named a production manager in the textile fibers department in Wilmington, Del. Dorschel returns to Chattanooga from the Textile Fiber plant in Old Hickory, Tenn.

A former Chattanoogan, William P. DeBrocke, has been promoted to the rank of Colonel in ceremonies at Fort Benning. Col. DeBrocke, a 1943 graduate of West Point, is married to the former Miss Virginia Varnell of Chattanooga, the daughter of the late Chester Varnell and Mrs. Varnell. Their daughter, Anne, is a junior at the University of Tennessee.

William L. Galbraith, who assumed his new duties as executive director of the Family Agency here, was introduced at an FSA staff luncheon. Galbraith, who succeeds Miss Leah James as executive director, is the former director of the Child and Family Service at Knoxville.
Robert L. Howell, associated for the past 13 years with the glass industry in a sales capacity, has joined the Chattanooga Glass Co., G.C. Moore, vice president in charge of company sales, announced. Chattanooga Glass Co., a subsidiary of the Dorsey Corp., is a leading manufacturer of bottles for the soft drink industry.

Mrs. Alfred J. Samples, chairman of the Scenic Cities Beautiful Commission, said one of the aims of the SCBC is to have individuals, clubs, organizations, and businesses initiate their own programs.
Wednesday, Aug. 31
U.S. District Judge Frank W. Wilson has been appointed to a 12-judge committee by U.S. Chief Justice Earl Warren to review and make recommendations with respect to proposed changes in the federal jury system included in Title I of pending civil rights legislation. The committee is composed of distinguished federal judges serving on both U.S. Courts of Appeals and district courts.
Thursday, Sept. 1
A bequest of $50,000 to the University of Chattanooga has been stipulated in the will of John W. Evans. The will provides for a scholarship fund to help needy students selected by the university’s scholarship committee. Mr. Evans, a bachelor, was a native Chattanoogan and a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
Friday, Sept. 2
Gerald Howard “Jerry” Summers was appointed an assistant district attorney by Attorney General Edward E. Dani. Summers succeeds Jack R. Brown, who resigned to enter the private practice of law. (Ed. note: Congratulations on 50 years in the practice of law, Mr. Summers.)
