What was happening in Chattanooga in 1916?



Saturday, March 25, 1916

There will be 350 realty men as guests of Chattanooga en route to New Orleans for the national meeting of Realtors. John R. Evans, president of the Chattanooga Real Estate Exchange, received a telegram from National President Paul Steinbrecher of Chicago saying the group will arrive by special train. The local committee of entertainment is Jeff Wall, chairman; H.E. Dagley, C.D. Gordon, John R. Evans, S.O. Bankson, Clint Conn and W.J. Bass.

Miss Mary Belle Thomas is spending a few days with Miss Margaret Davies at Signal Mountain Inn.

Sunday, March 26

John Campbell and Edwin Chapin, who are attending the University of Pennsylvania, will spend the Easter holidays at home.

Monday, March 27

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Haymore and daughters, Wenonah and Jane, will spend the summer in their cottage on Walden’s Ridge.

Miss Nancy Latimer is visiting Mrs Lon D. Worsham.

Tuesday, March 28

Miss Jennie Bible Beane has returned to Jasper after a visit with Miss Marguerite McWhorter on Oak Street.

Mrs. W.H. Pryor, soloist, assisted by Mrs. I. Marks, violinist, and Roy Lamont Smith at the piano, gave a varied and well-chosen program of German music at the Music Club Monday night. The program was enthusiastically received.

Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell will move to Lookout Mountain having leased the Porter Cottage.

Wednesday, March 29

Hundreds attended the reunion of the Raulston family held in Jasper Tuesday to celebrate the 89th birthday of Mrs. Barbara Raulston. The event took place at the hoe of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Raulston. The families of Rev. R.O, Raulston and W. Scott Raulston of Chattanooga attended.

Mrs. R.B. Davenport and Mrs. W.H. Trotter have gone to Washington, D.C. to send Easter holidays with Misses Clare Trotter and Martha Davenport.

Mrs. J. Light Atlee will leave soon to visit her son, Frank, who is a student at the Univ. of Michigan.

Thursday, March 30

Mrs. Bashie Martin of Lebanon, Tenn., is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Willard Steele and Dr. Steele at their home on Missionary Ridge.

Friday, March 31

Charles J. Holden, manager and proprietor of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, one of the largest hotels in northern Michigan, is in Chattanooga to promote interest to build a new hotel on Lookout Mountain, The Chamber of Commerce is interested and has appointed a committee to work out plans. W.E. Brock is chairman of the committee.

Mrs. S.H. Golibart of Washington is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Victor Golibart.

Mrs. J.M. Lanier will leave soon for Beaumont, Texas, to visit her daughter, Mrs. Gaither Jones.
