J.R. McGuff, vice president of the Tennessee Hospital Service Association, has been named general chairman of the 1966 Easter Seal Campaign in the Greater Chattanooga area. Ralph E. Schweickart, president of the Hamilton County Committee Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults, announced.
Leaders of the Dairy Council of Chattanooga held their 17th annual meeting Friday. D.T. Hardin was named president to succeed Sid Tiller; Sanford Leake was elected vice president. Dr. Morris Fishbein, editor of Medical World News, addressed the luncheon meeting in Morrison’s Cafeteria on “Food, Fads and Follies.”
Sunday, March 6
Leaders representing every field of safety from over a 14-state area began arriving Saturday to attend the 27th annual Southern Safety Conference which opens Sunday with group meetings at Hotel Patten. An attendance of 1500 or more is expected. Colette Daiute “Miss Teen-Age America” 17-year old high school student of Paramus, N.J., will present a slide lecture Tuesday morning on “Safety Orientation,” and safe driving.

Purchase negotiations were revealed in a joint statement released here by William J. Kelly, Jr., chairman of Burkart-Schier Chemical Co., and in New York City by Dr. Jesse Werner, chairman and president of General Aniline & Film Corp., a leading manufacturer of dyestuffs, chemicals and photo products. No details were given as to the proposed acquisition of Burkart-Schier.
Tuesday, March 8
Clifton Hills Grammar School on Rossville Blvd., damaged heavily by a three-alarm fire before dawn Tuesday, will reopen Wednesday with three classes moved, temporarily, to Temple Baptist Church on Rossville Blvd. Damage to the old section of the school building may run as high as $300,000. The new section of the school was damaged slightly.

Miss Elizabeth Edwards, for 20 years librarian of the Chattanooga Public Library, was accorded tribute Tuesday night when nearly 300 of her friends from in and around Chattanooga honored her with a dinner at Provident Cafeteria. Dr. Spencer McCallie, master of ceremonies, said “We are not here to tell Elizabeth Edwards goodbye. We are here to thank her.”
Joseph H. Davenport, Jr., was re-elected president and also was promoted to chief executive officer of the Volunteer State Life Insurance Co., at a meeting of the board of directors, Wednesday. Carter J. Lynch, Jr., formerly senior vice president, was advanced to executive vice-president.
Thursday, March 10
Mayor Kelley, in a talk to the Chattanooga Board of Realtors, Wednesday in the Read House, listed annexation, Riverside Drive extension, and several other projects as “musts” for the community’s continued progress.
Friday, March 11
Dr. L.O. Griffith, director of education and promotion for the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Atlanta, will be the speaker at the First Baptist Church’s annual mission banquet Monday evening.
