George S. Campbell has been appointed to head the 1966 Area Development Committed of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, announced Friday by T.A. Lupton, Jr., president.
The Tenn. Valley Authority paid Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Carter $425,000 for a 1,414-acre tract of river bottom land where Nickajak Dam is being erected to replace Hales Bar Dam.
Sunday, Feb. 27
Property around the home of the late Judge and Mrs. Joe V. Williams on Dallas Road will be developed into Williams Woods, one of Chattanooga’s most select and highly restricted residential areas, Robert S. Williams, president of Williams Realty, Inc., announced Saturday.
Monday, Feb. 28
Paul G. Bode, assistant headmaster at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, and a former teacher of mathematics at McCallie School, will succeed Miss Mary Hannah Tucker at Girls’ Preparatory School as headmaster. Miss Tucker, who has served as head mistress at GPS for several years, is retiring in June.
Mrs. Kathryn Arnold has assumed her duties as acting librarian at the Chattanooga Public Library. She succeeds Miss Elizabeth Edwards, who resigned to accept a position as director of the Rolling Prairie Regional Library near Decatur, Ill.
Tuesday, March 1
The board of directors of Richmond Hosiery Mills of Rossville, Ga., announced the appointment of J. Earl Barger to the position of president of the firm. Mr. Barger succeeds Albert A. Steiner.
John M. Reid announced he has purchased Chattanooga Aviation, Inc., at Lovell Field, and concurrently disclosed that the firm has been awarded the dealer franchise for the full line of Beechcraft airplanes by Southern Airways of Atlanta, southeastern distributor.

Jim Wann, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Wann, and James William Hoback, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hoback, both of McCallie School, and Van Fletcher, Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Van Fletcher, and David Harris, son of Dean and Mrs. Boyce Harris, both of Baylor School, have been selected as Morehead Scholars at the University of North Carolina, it was announced from Chapel Hill, N.C.
Toby Morton, director of development at the University of Chattanooga for the past three years, has resigned effective March 31, to become executive vice president of the Eyes of Texas Sight Foundation in Houston, President LeRoy A. Martin announced.

Dudley Porter, Jr., vice president, general counsel and secretary, was elected to the board of the Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co., Wednesday, at meetings of the stockholders and directors.
Friday, March 4
Some 1,500 delegates from 14 states are expected here Sunday for the opening of the 27th Annual Southern Safety Conference and Exposition. The three-day session, which includes a youth conference, will be held at the Tivoli Theatre, Hotel Patten and Read House. The conference will conduct a general meeting at the Tivoli Monday with Hemby Morgan, State Department of Education in Baton Rouge, La., presiding. Gov. Clement will address the group Monday afternoon.
