Sunday, Jan. 16
Mr. and Mrs. Henry James Hine of Rome, Ga., announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessie Hine, to Doyle Andrew Moore. The wedding will be in March. Miss Hine is a niece of Dr. and Mrs. George West and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Oehmig, Sr., of Chattanooga, and has visited here often.
Prof. and Mrs. Josef O. Cadek have received a letter from the director of Conservancy of Zurich complimenting them on the successful young violin artist their son Ottokar Cadek has developed into.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Vince Goldham, who have been residing in Elma, Tenn., have taken a house on Oak Street, and will occupy it in a few days.
Monday, Jan. 17
The wedding of Miss Jessie Simmons and R.H. Ackerman took place at the home of the bride in North Chattanooga. The Rev. J.W. Moore of Centenary Church officiated. The attendants were Miss Annie K. Simmons and C.L. Chandler. Miss Frances Blair furnished the wedding music. After a wedding trip, the young couple will reside with the bride’s father, Mr. B.J. Simmons.
Riverview was invaded by a burglar or burglars who entered the homes of Dr. W.E. Anderson, Judge W.W. Allison, D.W. Lemon, and S.V. Devees. Only money was taken, but the homes were thoroughly ransacked. No arrests have been made.
Tuesday, Jan. 18
The Smallings of Bellbuckle, Tenn., were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Henderson en route to New York.
Wednesday, Jan. 19
Mrs. T.M. McConnell, widow of Chancellor McConnell, died today after an illness of two years. Services will be at the home with Dr. J.W. Bachman officiating.
Mr. J. Harry Thomas, prominent in business, political, and church life of Chattanooga, passed away after an illness of only a few hours. Funeral services will be at the Highland Park Methodist Church, with Dr. T.S. McCallie and Rev. N. M. Watson officiating.
Miss Neil Wright is home from a visit of several weeks in La Grange, Ky., and Evansville, Ind.
Thursday, Jan. 20
In an impressive marriage ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Craig, in Nashville Wednesday evening, Miss Minnie Craig was married to Mr. Joseph Howell, Jr. Dr. James I Vance of the First Presbyterian Church and Rev. Robert Craig of Cookeville officiated. After an eastern wedding trip, the young couple will reside in Nashville. A Chattanooga girl before the family moved to Nashville, she has many Chattanooga friends who attended the wedding.
Friday, Jan. 21
Misses Mary Bertha Allison, Josephine Whiteside, Margaret Ochs, and Gloria Lamb, who are in school in Chevy Chase in Washington, will be the weekend guests of Mrs. Adolph Ochs and Miss Iphigene Ochs in New York.
Misses Elizabeth Read and Elizabeth Hill have returned from Nashville, where they were attendants in the Craig-Howell wedding.
Miss Genevieve Montague is ill in a sanitarium in San Francisco. Mrs. D.P. Montague will remain with her daughter.
