BlueCross promotes Flowers to deputy general counsel

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has promoted Jennifer Flowers to deputy general counsel. In this role, Flowers is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the legal division, and supports the general counsel in providing oversight and monitoring for all activities.

“Jennifer’s skills and knowledge have served us well in an associate general counsel role since 2007,” said Tony Hullender, senior vice president and general counsel. “Jennifer and her team have provided excellent legal support for all aspects of our company’s commercial business. Her skill set and leadership experience will be an even greater asset to our division, the company, and our members in her new capacity.”

Prior to this position, Flowers was associate general counsel supporting commercial business. She first joined BlueCross in 2007 as counsel, where she drafted new core provider contracts and made changes to existing contracts.

Flowers was an associate with Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz before coming to BlueCross. While in private practice, Flowers handled litigation involving medical malpractice and nursing home defense cases as well as labor and employment issues. She also worked in the Chattanooga city attorney’s office and was a law clerk for Hamilton County Chancellors Howell Peoples and Frank Brown.

Flowers earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1997. She earned her Master’s of Business Administration from UTC in 1999. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2002.
