The Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga (EPC) has been awarded the highest honor available to an estate planning council affiliated with the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils: the Leonard H. Neiman and Walter Lee Davis, Jr., Council of Excellence Award. The award was created in 2015 to recognize councils that provide a strong multi-disciplinary environment for estate planning professionals within their community, and is intended to honor councils that grow their programs and services and provide an exceptional member experience.
The Council of Excellence Award is named for two individuals who sought to strengthen the bond between the NAEPC and its affiliated councils during their terms on the board. Davis served as president of the association in 2008, and was instrumental in forming the Council Relations Committee, a group of volunteer members charged with being a liaison between affiliates and the national association. Neiman served the association as a board member for over 15 years, and worked to gather information about estate planning councils from around the country.
The Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga is an interdisciplinary organization for professionals involved in estate planning. The council is dedicated to the promotion of cooperative efforts in the field of estate planning by providing quality education to its members, engaging in activities to improve services, promoting respect and understanding among professionals, and advancing public knowledge of estate planning. The 183 members represent the accounting, banking, insurance, financial services, legal, and planned giving professions. The EPC of Chattanooga has been serving professionals and clients in the Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia since 1950.

The award reflects the great historical foundation established by estate planning professionals in the Chattanooga area, and our members’ continuing commitment to the community to provide the highest level of professional estate planning guidance,” said Council President Shelton Swafford Chambers, an attorney and certified public accountant at Elliott Davis Decosimo in Chattanooga.
