Mrs. Samuel Boyd Allen of Tate Springs will go with Miss Helen Johnson, regent of the Chickamauga Chapter DAR, to Cumberland Gap for the unveiling of the Boone marker on the old Daniel Boone trail placed by the Sycamore Shoals Chapter DAR. Gov. Tom C. Rye of Tennessee is the principal speaker.

Sunday, June 27

The bodies of 26 Spanish War veterans have been brought here from Huntsville and interred on the grassy slope, Section T, of the National Cemetery. These soldiers died of Yellow Fever in 1898.

Mrs. W. C. McCoy’s circle of the First Baptist Church will meet Monday with Mrs. Judson Buchanan on Missionary Ridge.

Announcement has been received of the marriage of Mrs. Harry Wilkins Landress to Mr. Benjamin Fisher Kerr of New York, June 26. The wedding took place at “Maycrow Place” summer home of Mrs. Kerr’s sister, Mrs. Annie MacKelvey at Sag Harbor, Long Island, N.Y.

Monday, June 28

Jo Anderson has moved his drug store across Market Street to the east corner of Market and Eighth. He had been on the northwest corner for 20 years. He was 21 when he started with $8.00 worth of supplies in the store where Silva and Abbott are now located, sleeping and eating at his store, determined to succeed. He said, “I am going to make a man out of myself, yet.”

Miss Bessie Oehmig is the guest of Mrs. W.E. Novell on Walden’s Ridge for the weekend.

Miss Marjory Newell is spending a few days with Miss Pauline Colyar at Colyarton on Missionary Ridge.

Mrs. W.H. Dietz, formerly of Kingston, Tenn., now of Spangler, Wash., is visiting Miss Julia Williams on Vance Avenue.

Wednesday, June 30

The Russians are in full retreat along a line of 250 miles, but the British are still hoping that the Russians can counter-attack Germans along the Dneister River in a desperate struggle.

Miss Louise Bass is visiting the Hon. and Mrs. J. M. Dickinson at their summer home on Bon Air.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Schlesinger have returned from their wedding trip and are residing on Mississippi Ave.

Thursday, July 1

John C. Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam H. Campbell, had the honor of catching the largest tarpon of the season, weight 150-pounds, in Sarasota, Florida.

Burch C. Patty will accompany Mrs. W.B. Swaney, Mrs. Marion Hope and family on a motor trip to Willoughby Beach, Saturday. Mrs. Nell Cooke Patty will join them later for a visit.

Friday, July 2

Various clubs of the city, along with the Humane Society, are making a determined effort in the suburbs to save the native birds of this section. The birds are being killed and the nests destroyed. Residents are anxious to know if there are laws for protection of the birds.

Misses Sadie and Bessie Magill will go to North Carolina next week for a month’s stay.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bradford and Miss Louise Bradford, Mr. and Mrs. T.N. Melton and Miss Katherine Melton and Elsie Shepherd will go to Wright’s Mineral Springs for the weekend.
