Lunchtime Jazz at Miller Plaza
Jazzanooga is hosting the Brown Bag Lunch Music Series on Fridays this month. The free concerts are taking place at the Waterhouse Pavilion from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Nikki “Slow Jam Ellis” is scheduled to perform on April 17, while Shane Morrow is slated to take the stage on April 24.
Muse of Fire Project
The Muse of Fire Project will present its Spring Series of original short plays written by kids and performed by grown-ups at the Chattanooga Public Library Theater on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 18 at 3 and 7 p.m. The Muse of Fire Project is an after-school program that provides children from Chattanooga the opportunity to write their own plays and work with professional actors and musicians to create live theater productions. Pancake breakfast fundraiser
The public is invited to a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Chattanooga Fire Station 1 on East Main Street on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The proceeds will benefit local Ironman Firefighter Jason Greer and his son Tristin, who’s battling neuroblastoma and leukemia. The Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association and the Chattanooga Fire Department are sponsoring the event. Blood Assurance will be there to take donations, and representatives of Be The Match will be on hand to help people join the bone marrow registry.
Bug-A-Palüza
Scenic City Volks Folks will host its 17th annual Bug-A-Palüza Volkswagen car show at Camp Jordan April 18 and 19. All gate proceeds will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga. Concessions proceeds will go to supporting families with sick or injured children staying at a nearby hospital. Bug-A-Palüza features VW classics and new models, food, children’s activities, and music. The event will host hundreds of show cars and over 100 vendors. Camping is available on-site for both small tents and large RVs with water and electricity. Pets are welcome on the campgrounds. The gates will open each day at 8 a.m
Mid-South Symphonic Band spring concert
The Mid-South Symphonic Band will host its spring concert on Sunday, April 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, located at 8645 East Brainerd Road. The concert is free to the public. The program will include inspirational and patriotic favorites past and present. Founded in 1990, the Mid-South Symphonic Band is comprised of 75 musicians from the greater Chattanooga area who perform under the direction of Jim Souders. Free symphony orchestra concert
Southern Adventist University’s Symphony Orchestra will perform on Sunday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church. The performance, conducted by Laurie Redmer-Minner, is free and open to the public. Selections include Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” Victor Herbert’s “Cello Concerto No. 2 in E minor, op. 30,” with a cello solo by Wesley Baldwin, and Howard Hanson’s “Symphony No. 2, Romantic.” For more information, call (423) 236-2880.
Tennessee Smart Yards
UT Extension will offer a landscaping class called Tennessee Smart Yards from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at the UT Agricultural Center on Bonny Oaks Drive. Topics will include landscape design for a healthy yard, water management to avoid problems; rain garden design, soil care, and nine steps for a better yard. Annual Palate 2 Palette
The Craniofacial Foundation of America (CFA) will host its 8th Annual Palate 2 Palette event on Saturday, April 25. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the Gallery Stroll. Following the stroll, guests can go to the Bubbles and Sweets after party at Track 29 from 8 to 10 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the CFA, a non-profit organization that supports the work of the Tennessee Craniofacial Center (TCC) at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger and Erlanger Health System. A Night to Remember
This year’s Night to Remember is scheduled to take place Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m. at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center. Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Ledisi is scheduled to headline the show, which will also feature singer Leela James and singer and songwriter Raheem DeVaughn. In 27 years, A Night to Remember has raised over $4 million for various organizations that support Chattanooga’s youth. Nearly-Wed Adventure
First Things First will host the Nearly-Wed Adventure on Saturday, April 25 at Hidden Hollow Resort in Chickamauga , Ga., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nearly-Wed Adventure helps couples who are engaged or seriously dating address the issues many newlyweds face in their relationship such as communicating effectively; expectations for marriage, finances, work, children, and in-laws; and managing disagreements. Celebrations at the Jewish Cultural Center
The Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga will host two events in April. Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) will take place Saturday, April 25 at 9:15 p.m. Yom HaZikaron honors Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. This year, 13 young Jewish leaders will tell the stories of soldiers and victims through readings and songs created in Israel by well-known musicians. Attendees are asked to wear white shirts. There is no cost to attend. Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) will take place Sunday April 26, at 6 p.m. The Federation has invited former Israel Defense Force band members to perform Hebrew and English songs in a night club-style atmosphere for adults 21 years and older. Dinner will be served. The cost to attend is $18. Attendees are asked to dress in blue and white. How to Get a Job 101
The Chattanooga Chamber will host two free How To Get A Job 101 sessions Thursday, April 30. Human resources directors from local businesses will present information on topics ranging from resume writing and online applications to interviewing and appropriate follow-up. Session one will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; session 2 will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place at Brainerd Crossroads, located at 4011 Austin Street. Book Sale at Hamilton Place Mall
The Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library will hold its spring book sale at the Hamilton Place Mall during regular mall hours from Saturday, May 2 through Sunday, May 10. Hours for the sale are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The location for this sale will be in the old Piccadilly Restaurant location near the Sears entrance. Thousands of donated books representing many genres, including children’s books, will be available.
Chocolate Fling
The 8th Annual Chocolate Fling & VIP Brunch fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee takes place on May 3 at The Chattanoogan Hotel. Chattanooga Outdoors Show
The inaugural Chattanooga Outdoors Show will take place at East Ridge’s Camp Jordan Park and Arena Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10. The show will bring in exhibitors from all over the southeast to show off everything from kayaks and backpacks to ATVs and fishing boats.
Bunny Hop!
Tickets are on sale for the 15th annual Bunny Hop event to benefit Chambliss Center for Children, to be held on Friday, May 1 in the First Tennessee Pavilion from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Parents can enjoy an evening with friends and festivities while their kids take advantage of the numerous activities for children. Activities will include arts and crafts, a bunny petting station, a balloon artist, a photo booth, and a sports zone. All of the children in attendance will receive a Peter Rabbit coloring book. Adults will enjoy live music, a silent auction, and a buffet dinner catered by Events with Taste. Food provided for the children will include Zaxby’s chicken fingers, macaroni & cheese from 1885, and treats from other local businesses.
