Brainbuster – Make your brain tingle!

With Halloween just around the corner, maybe we should brush up on the superstitions that could bring us good or bad luck. In doing this puzzle, I realized why I am not yet a millionaire – my bed faces north and south – quite unlucky as far as fortune goes! Check out the rest of these!

1.What does it mean when the bottom of your foot itches? Someone is coming to see you; You’ll soon walk on new ground; You are going to take a trip; Rain is coming.

2. What bird can smell gunpowder making it hard to shoot? Turkey, hawk, crow, duck.

3. What was once thought to be bad luck to do early in the morning? Whistle; Cry; Sing; Laugh.

4. Why are fly’s so annoying? St. Matthew shooed them away when Christ died; Noah did not want to bring them on his Ark; They were jealous of St. Francis’ love of birds; They were excommunicated by St. Bernard and are still angry.

5. Your now “rich Uncle” has just won the lottery! After asking him for a loan, which part of his body should you rub to get some of his luck? Forehead; Hand; Nose; Chest.

6. Which physical work is it believed you should NOT do on a Good Friday? Gardening; Cooking; Hammering wood; Sewing.

7. If you ever want to see a friend again, never say goodbye when? While on a bridge; When a bat flies overhead; When you are both mad; During an eclipse.

8. Not all tattoos are decorations; some have meaning. What is the significance of the anchor many seamen wear on their arms? It prevents them from ever getting married; It insures they will always have a berth on a ship somewhere; It prevents them from drifting away should they fall overboard; It will give them the strength of steel in a fist fight.

9. When you spill salt, what should you do? Find the salt and pound it with your right hand; spread it into the shape of a cross; sprinkle some salt in your right hand and throw it over your left shoulder; knock on wood.

10. What does it mean when you suddenly shiver for no reason? Your refrigerator door is open; An old teacher just thought of you; Someone just walked over your future grave; Your bathtub will back-up soon.

ANSWERS:

1. You’ll soon walk on new ground. 2. The crow. 3. It was once believed overconfident to show merriment in the morning. 4. They were excommunicated by St. Bernard and got angry about it, so to this day we are still having to deal with their anger. 5. Hand. 6. Hammering wood. 7. While on a bridge. One of the highest suspension bridges in the world is The Royal Gorge Bridge over the Arkansas River, in Colorado, USA. It stands 1053 feet above the earth. 8. It prevents them from drifting away if they should fall overboard. Tattooing HOLD FAST on one’s knuckles prevented a sailor from falling overboard. In the days when whipping was practiced in the navy, sailors would have large tattoos of Jesus or the Virgin Mary on their backs, hoping this would prevent the punisher from lashing too hard. 9. Sprinkle a little salt in your right hand and throw it over your left shoulder. 10. Someone just walked over your future grave. Although, my husband’s mother always said it meant that an opossum just walked over your future grave. Neither one sounds good to me.
