Twelve health benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

HEALTH CORNER

April Sherrill

There has been a long standing legend that Cleopatra once dissolved a pearl in some apple cider vinegar before drinking the vinegar, thus winning the wager against Mark Antony that she could spend a fortune on a single meal.

Who knows if this story has any actual truth to it or not, but I believe it is safe to say that she knew the health benefits of apple cider vinegar.

Since 5000 B.C., the Babylonians had been using it as a preservative and condiment, while Hippocrates used it for its medicine qualities. Apple cider vinegar is made through the process of fermentation of a list of materials, including molasses, dates, sorghum, fruits, berries, melons, coconut, honey, beer, maple syrup, potatoes, beets, malt, grains and whey.

Of all the vinegars, apple cider vinegar is the best one out there.  Although science has yet to prove many of the claims this miracle vinegar stands for, it has managed to stay very popular among people of generations for a variety of reasons.

Many people swear by this stuff to help with anything from hair to breath to acid reflux. People have literally taken up to drinking a shot or two of this a day.

After reading many of the benefits, people have warned me that this will become one of my daily routines. There are many benefits to this special drink but I am going to point out my favorite ones.

It is an instant shine booster for your hair. It is recommended to use after shampooing your hair a couple of times a week to boost the shine and the volume.

Warts. I actually have personal knowledge to say this one works. I had a wart on the back of my leg a couple of years ago that was proving too much for the doctors. Every time I would have it removed, it would show back up BIGGER and BADDER! I read about soaking a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and putting it on the wart with a bandage over it. You will replace the cotton ball as it dries out. I am here to tell you 3 days later not only was my wart completely gone but it has never shown back up. I was only left with an ever so slight scar. IT WORKS!

Acid reflux, this is another that I can say personally works. My husband has dealt with silent acid reflux for years, most likely from his blood pressure medicines, but every once in a while he will run out and we will forget to pick up his meds.  No worries though, he will take two teaspoons of this wonderful vinegar and experience no more acid reflux. Works like a charm!

It has been said that if you brush your teeth with apple cider vinegar it will remove stains from them.

Apple cider vinegar can aid in weight loss. For daily weight management, add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water. This concoction can be sipped throughout the day. Data shows some limited, yet significant, weight loss benefits from sustained daily intake of acetic acid (which is a main ingredient in apple cider vinegar). In a 2009 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, it was found that subjects that consumed acetic acid for 12 weeks experienced significant declines in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides. Triglycerides contribute to the bad cholesterol that we want to avoid. I am most interested in this one. Although I do not have much weight to lose, I do have some. I am going to be trying this specifically for this reason. Only time will tell.

It is a natural detox for your body. It is known to level out your body’s PH balance as well as detoxifies the liver, and it helps stimulate your cardiovascular circulation.

Finally, one for my husband, it can be used as an aftershave.

As you can see, the benefits of this miracle vinegar are astounding and there are so many more functions for this powerful liquid.

As the old generations are constantly looking for ways to improve their health naturally and the young are looking for ways to stay healthy and young, I think this is a great daily routine to incorporate. Who knows, it very well could improve or diminish some of your everyday problems with your body and health. If you have never read about the benefits of apple cider vinegar, take time out to research it. I am sure the benefits will have you jumping on the bandwagon as well. Happy drinking!
