Acclaimed theoretical physicist Dr. Kaku to speak at ChattState




Futurist, communicator, and popular figure for science, Dr. Michio Kaku will visit Chattanooga State Community College on Thursday, Jan. 23 with a unique presentation titled, “The Future of the Mind and Beyond.” This event is free and open to the public. Captioning will be provided for guests with hearing loss.

There will be a book signing from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga State Augusta R. Kolwyck library. His public presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m. The presentation will be held in the Health Fitness Center on the main campus located at 4501 Amnicola Highway.

An acclaimed writer, Dr. Kaku has had more than 70 articles published in professional physics journals such as “Physical Review.” His topics include superstring theory, super-gravity, super-symmetry, and Hadron physics. Currently, he holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at City College of New York.

As the author of various popular science books, Kaku’s most recent book, “The Future of the Mind,” will be released in February 2014. According to a synopsis by Random House, the book provides “an authoritative and compelling look at the astonishing research being done in top laboratories around the world – all based on the latest advancements in neuroscience and physics.”

Kaku serves as host of a weekly, one-hour radio program called “Explorations,” which deals with general topics of science, war, peace and the environment. As the host of the only nationally syndicated science program on commercial radio, “Science Fantastic,” his program reaches 130 radio stations and focuses on what he defines as the future of science: “futurology.”
