Mr. and Mrs. Jack O’Donohue left Friday for New York to attend the World Series.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Jeffords of Mexico City sailed Friday from Vera Cruz and will arrive in Chattanooga this week to visit Mr. and Mrs. George Campbell.
Mrs. Lon Foust will return Sunday from a visit in Nashville.
Sunday, October 5
John LaFayette Wray has just completed serving eight years as head of Dun & Bradstreet’s Chattanooga office. Wray formerly has been with the company in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Savannah.
An “Old Oak Tree” is on trial for its life on the Courthouse lawn. The tree stands in the center of the grounds facing Seventh Street, and its future is in the hands of the landscape architect.
Monday, October 6
Yesterday, Dr. J.W. Bachman closed his 40th year in the ministry as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
Saturday’s game was a great disappointment to University of Chattanooga fans as Sewanee won 28-0. The outstanding player for UC was left-back Paul Dexheimer.
Tuesday, October 7
Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Mitchell are moving into their new home in North Chattanooga.
Miss Elizabeth Pennybacker of Danville, Ky., will come tomorrow to be the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Allen.
Wednesday, October 8
A telegram from Paul J. Kruesi in Washington said that Chattanooga is designated as the “Gateway” to the middle states. He said Chattanooga was chosen on its merits. This was accomplished through the Chamber of Commerce, of which C.H. Huston is president.
