Dr. John Paul Pack, minister of First Christian Church here from 1941 to 1947 and now minister of Wilshire Christian Church in Los Angeles, will hold a brief preaching mission at First Christian here October 8-10. Dr. Pack was an outstanding civic and religious leader during his ministry in Chattanooga.
Dr. Maxwell A. Smith, professor of modern languages at the University of Chattanooga, has accepted the challenging task of French Literature editor for a world authors series announced for publication during the next five years by Twayne Publishers of New York City.
Sunday, October 6
Miss Fannie Mennen said Sunday evening that the 17th annual Plum Nelly Outdoor Art Show Saturday and Sunday had 13,151 visitors. Sales were larger this year than last, as 399 paintings were sold compared to 197 works sold last year.
Monday, October 7
Ernest Bacon, 26-year-old pharmacist, Monday was elected to the Hamilton County Board of Education by the Quarterly County Court. He will succeed Dr. G. Fox Monroe, whose resignation from the board was accepted by the Squires prior to election of Bacon to fill Dr. Monroe’s unexpired term.
