Saturday, August 2

Mrs. D. P. Montague, Miss Genevieve Montague and Countess Rasponi will leave today for New York, sailing next week to Italy.

Vincent D. Mahoney will leave today for a two-week trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cheyenne, Wy.

Dr. and Mrs. I.D. Hinds of Lebanon, Tenn., will leave Monday for their home after a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Willard Steele, and Dr. Steele on Missionary Ridge.

Sunday, August 3

At the State Rifle Shoot at Camp Sevier in Knoxville, Cap’t W.B. Scoby of Franklin came in first and Col. Fred H. Phillips of Chattanooga came in second.

The Girls’ Canning Club will hold its tomato canning demonstration at the home of Mrs. R.B. Cooke in Sunnyside with Mrs. J.B. Lauderbach assisting. The garden of Misses Rachel and Adelaide Cooke is the source of much comment. Picnic lunch will be served under the tent at noon.

Miss Mae Hannah has returned from Sullivan Island. Mrs. Hannah, Mrs. Mogford and Miss Mae Hannah will go Friday to Sulphur Springs for a stay.

Monday, August 4

Adolph Ochs will come this week from summer school at the University of Virginia. Van Dyke Ochs is traveling in the West.

Miss Mamie Bright and her brother, Gardner Bright, have returned from a stay at Beersheba Springs.

Mrs. James Johnston has returned to Tucker Springs after a visit to Mrs. John T. Lupton at Camp Sapphire, N.C. Mr. and Mrs. Johnston will leave Saturday for New York, sailing for a trip abroad. They will return to Chattanooga about the middle of September.

Charlie Stivers, Dewitt Dickson, Charles Tomlinson and Percy Shepherd are spending the week at Mrs. Kirvens on Walden’s Ridge.

Tuesday, August 5

Mr. and Mrs. Anzi Waddel Hooker of Lebanon, Tenn., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Katherine, to Seth McKinney Walker, son of the late Judge Seth Walker of Hamilton County. The wedding will take place August 12 in Lebanon.

Miss Louise Hunt has returned from a visit to Corinne Craig at Monteagle.

More entries have been received for the Women’s Tennis Tournament than ever before. The games start this week. Mrs. Z.C. Patten is conducting the matches for the Golf and Country Club. Miss Lua Caulkins, who has held the championship for two years, will defend her title.

Wednesday, August 6

Misses Gertrude and Charlotte Llewellyn have returned from a visit to Maryville, Tenn.

Miss Fannie Howard has returned home from a visit to Mrs. T.H. Wagner on Missionary Ridge.

Attorney J.L. Levine is spending a 10-day vacation on Lake Michigan.

Thursday, August 7

Mrs. W.B. Garvin entertained informally at her home in St. Elmo, honoring Mrs. C.A. Mitchell of Jackson, Miss., the guest of Mrs. S.D. Lodor on Lookout Mountain.

Miss Margaret Boykin of Atlanta, who has been visiting Mrs. Julius Young Talmadge on Walden’s Ridge, is now the guest of Mrs. J.C. Carmack on Missionary Ridge.

Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Caldwell and daughter, Eugenia, will return Saturday from Tate Springs. Miss Caldwell will leave soon for Pulaski to visit Miss Elizabeth Wade.

Friday, August 8

Mrs. E.Y. Chapin and daughter, Elise, have returned from a trip to Canada.

Miss Florence Rutherford of McMinnville, Tenn., left Thursday after visiting Mrs. Theodore King in Riverview. Theodore King, Jr., will go next week to McMinnville for a visit.
