Friday, July 11

The Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce heard a report from Sec. W. Scott Raulston on the “posters” referendum in regard to the East End Avenue viaduct that is to be constructed. The vote was 457 for and nine against.

Mrs. Joe Brown will leave shortly to visit her sister, Mrs. Erving Graham, in Asbury Park, N.J.

Mrs. R.W. Healy and sister, Mrs. Ella Berridge, will move this week to Gallipolis, Ohio to reside.

Saturday, July 12

Mr. and Mrs. George J. Hall left Friday night for a stay at Isle of Palms. Marvin Hall will go to Three Oaks on Walden’s Ridge for a week.

Will McIsaac has returned from a trip to Denver, Colo., and other Western points.

Miss Bessie Frater is expected home this week from Columbus, Ohio, where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Phillip Beebe.

Mrs. Sue C. Johnson and Foster Johnson have gone to Tate Springs for a stay.

Sunday, July 13

Harry Wertheimer, Edwin Woodworth and Angus McWhorter returned Saturday from a three-day camping and fishing trip at Lula Lake near Flintstone, Ga. They brought back numerous stories of big catches and a thoroughly enjoyable outing.

H. Schwartz and daughters Misses Cecile and Lillian, who are touring Europe, are now in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Mr. and Mrs. George S. Straud announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Belle, to Carl W. Flemister, son of Mrs. L.S. Flemister. No date has been set for the wedding.

Lieut. Ballard Lyerly of the First Field Artillery, USA, has left San Francisco and will arrive July 25 to visit his parents, Cap’t and Mrs. C.A. Lyerly on Oak Street.

Monday, July 14

Mr. and Mrs. Gaither L. Jones of Beaumont, Texas are the guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Lanier, on Missionary Ridge.

Misses Margaret Davies and Catherine Betts will go to Walden’s Ridge for a month’s stay at Mrs. Shackleford’s.

Tuesday, July 15

As a final courtesy to Dr. and Mrs. John H. Race, the members of the First Methodist (Stone) Church will entertain at the Golf and Country Club with a reception. Friends of Dr. and Mrs. Race are invited. Dr. Race has accepted a position with a publishing agency in Cincinnati.

Mr. and Mrs. Peruchi of Tampa, Fla., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Behm on Chamberlain Avenue. Mrs. Peruchi is a niece of Mrs. Behm.

Wednesday, July 16

Mr. and Mrs. Blucher Blair and their little daughter are the guests of Mrs. Blair’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Schlesinger, on Walden’s Ridge.

Miss Mary Dickson will go to Whiteside, Tenn., to visit Miss Sadie Hall for a week.

Thursday, July 17

Miss Eleanor Salmon will give a series of recitals in cities of the South interpreting classical dancing. She’s the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Salmon of Missionary Ridge. Later in the fall, she will return to New York to continue her studies in voice and dancing.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bryan will return next week from New York. Mrs. Bryan’s sister, Mrs. Stephen Doughton, is with the Bryan children at Three Oaks on Walden’s Ridge.

Miss Annie Grady has returned from a visit in Rome, Ga.

Over 700 men are attending the National Electrical Contractors meeting here, with headquarters at the Patten Hotel. Chattanooga is heralded as the “Electrical City of the Future.” Ernest Thurman of Chicago is national president. Joseph Fowler of Nashville, the state president, made the welcoming address at the opening session.

Friday, July 18

Miss Rowena Sauls will go to Cleveland, Tenn., to visit friends.

Mrs. M.J. McAllester and daughter, Edith, left for St. Louis to visit Will McAllester for a few days. Later, they will visit other points in the west.
