Saturday, June 7

Mrs. J.L. Chivington and children returned Friday from a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Henderson at Henderson Place at the foot of Missionary Ridge.

The teachers of the Bailey Avenue School in Highland Park entertained with a breakfast at the home of Miss Pearl Haley as a courtesy to Miss Mamie Bright and Prof. Couts, who have severed their connection with public schools to teach in private schools. Guests were Misses Ella Rankin, Ethel Kilgore, Ethel Wright, Mary Belle Wallace, Roberta Williams, Natalie O’Brien, Jean Sheridan, Edith Lockard, Maude Bowser, and Lucy Haley Dotson, Mrs. Lauderdale, Mrs. Harrison and Prof. Couts.

Dr. and Mrs. J.A. Chambliss of Anderson, S.C. will come next week to visit Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Chambliss. Dr. Chambliss will fill the pulpit of the First Baptist Church Sunday.

Sunday, June 8

Major C.D. McGuffey was re-elected by the County High School Board to succeed himself in the chair of Spanish at Central High School. He has held the honor since the organization of Central and is a most popular member of the faculty.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Frazier announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Claudia, to John Eddington Gilbreath of Atlanta, Ga.

Monday, June 9

The famous battlefield of the Shenandoah Valley, where Phil Sheridan made his famous ride 50 years ago, will be the site of the Eleventh Cavalry maneuvers. The ride from Ft. Oglethorpe to the Valley will be 700 miles for the troops in hot, sunny weather. The War Department has ordered the 11th Cavalry, the regiment from Fort Meyer, and troops from Fort Ethan Allan to report there by July 30. Major General Wood, Chief of Staff and Secretary of War Garrison, will witness some of the maneuvers.

Miss Mary Brown of North Carolina will leave Tuesday after a visit with Miss Margaret Pritchard on Bluff View.

Tuesday, June 10

The General A.P. Stewart Chapter, U.D.C., met Monday for the last meeting until fall. Mrs. W.T. Tyler, outgoing president, presided. Reports were given on the success of the Confederate Reunion. New officers installed were president, Mrs. W.L. Magill; first vice-president, Mrs. A.S. Dickey; second vice-president, Mrs. C.H. Vest; treasurer, Mrs. W.W. Barnes; secretary, Mrs. Belle Spencer; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Walter Allen; registrar, Mrs. Fred Schneider; and historian, Mrs. Hugh Embrey. The Chapter voted to assist with the September meeting of the G.A.R.

Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin Allen are home from a trip to Lexington, Ky.

Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Latimore and family, Mrs. Susan Kline, and Miss Helen Kline will move to Daisy for the summer.

Miss Jessal Holtzclaw is at Monteagle, the guest of Miss Lucy Holtzclaw. Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCall, Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Thompson, Jr., Dr. Holtzclaw, and his mother will leave Thursday for Monteagle to attend the wedding of Miss Lucy Holtzclaw to Richard D. McDonald. The wedding will be at her cottage, with Rev. T.L. Moody of the Methodist Church of Monteagle officiating.

Thursday, June 12

Misses Margaret Sadd and Nell Wright are in Sewanee for six weeks, where they are assisting Miss Baffett at the “Jump Off Mission.”

Among the Chattanoogans at Rhea Springs are Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Garvin, Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Mills, Mrs. Charles L. Hall and children, Mrs. Brown of Texas, Misses Elizabeth Head, Virginia Carden, Margaret Gillespie, J.L. Levine, and Dr. George R. West.

Mrs. R.H. Carswell and Mrs. Will Carswell will entertain this afternoon at their home on Missionary Ridge in honor of their guest, Mrs. Snelling of Baltimore, and Mrs. Martin of Lebanon, who is visiting Mrs. Willard Steele.

Mr. and Mrs. James F. Johnston moved Wednesday to their summer home at Tucker Springs.

Miss Carrie Sloan entertained with a box party at the Majestic Theater in honor of Miss Frances Myers, a bride-elect. Her guests were Misses Grace Brown, Bessie Becker, Elsie Brewer, Eva Wilbur, Ann Becker, Ruby Hanlon, Emily Relfe, and Mrs. Charles W. Hall. An ice course was served at the Palace after the show.

Friday, June 13

Word has reached Chattanooga that the Hon. John Emory Connor has been commissioned by Postmaster General Burleson to be the Postmaster of Chattanooga, to succeed W. Scott Ralston, who resigned to accept the place of Secretary of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce.

The Baylor Alumni met for an enthusiastic dinner meeting at the Patten Hotel. O.B. Andrews was toastmaster. Prof. Baylor, Prof. Couts, Alex Guerry, Sam McAlester, and others made talks. The group voted to give medals to the most outstanding athlete and most deserving student. The following officers were elected for the coming year: president, O.B. Andrews; secretary, T.C. Thompson, Jr.; treasurer, Scott Probasco.
