Miss Mary Lynn Carter has been chosen sponsor for Jonathan W. Bachman Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans for the Confederate Reunion in May. Her maid of honor will be Miss Margaret Saunders.

Mrs. Barbara Beene Raulston, mother of Postmaster W. Scott Raulston, celebrated her 84th birthday at the home of her son, R.O. Raulston on Dodds Ave. She is a member of a genuinely pioneer family of Sequatchie Valley. She has the distinction of having 116 descendants.

Sunday, March 30

The Chattanooga Municipal Band will give a concert at the Bijou Theater this afternoon for the genefit of the flood sufferers in Ohio and Indiana. 

This will be a busy and exciting week for baseball fans. The Detroit Tigers with Ty Cobb will be here all week. Elberfeld is pleased with his team, especially Otto Jordan and Mick Coyle in the infield.

This week’s theatres present interesting and versatile entertainment. “The Fortune Hunter,” which is good comedy; “Johnny Wise” musical comedy; “Elevating a Husband” with Louis Mann who is on his first Southern tour in three years, and Fritzi Scheff who will star in Hungarian opera “The Love Wager.”

Monday, March 31

In New Orleans, a “Hat Pin” ordinance was passed by the women of the Era Club against hatpins that are so long they extend over the brim of the hat. They cannot be worn while riding streetcars, in stores, elevators, theaters or any place where the public assembles. The ordinance calls it a misdemeanor and the party found not obeying will be fined $10 or imprisoned for not less than six hours.

Mrs. H. O. Milton has arrived in Chattanooga to make her home with Miss Kate Fort and Mrs. Frances Fort Brown.

Tuesday, April 1

Gen. and Mrs. Mills of Washington, D.C. will attend Grand Opera in Atlanta after which they will visit their daughter, Mrs. Emil Lawson at Fort Oglethorpe.

Misses Mamie Craig and Lula Brown have received appointments as Maids of Honor for the Sons of Confederate Veterans of the Tennessee Division for the coming Reunion.

Wednesday, April 2

The Girls’ Cotillion Club entertained Tuesday night with a unique Easter function at the Country Club. Mrs. J.W. Johnston, president, was costumed as Columbia. Each member wore a costume of a different nation. Music was furnished by the Patten Orchestra. A midnight supper was served.

Mrs. T.C. Latimore and Miss Helen Kline will attend the commencement exercises at Annapolis. Thomas Latimore is a member of the graduating class of the Naval Academy.

Thursday, April 3

A large crowd of music lovers met in the Chamber of Commerce Hall to bid farewell to Prof. Roy Smith who is leaving for California to reside. A reception and concert was given in his honor. Mrs. W.H. Pryor, president of the Music Club, sang several numbers and at the close of the concert she presented Prof. Smith a Silver Loving Cup.

Invitations have been issued by Mrs. A.S. Glover for a reception to be given at  her home April 9 honoring Mrs. Harry Franklin Griscom, Miss Cook and Misses Louise and Grace Glover.

Friday, April 4

The Prep Baseball League opens today with a game between Baylor and Central. They will play on McCallie Field. The four prep teams, McCallie, Baylor, Central and City, have a schedule of nine games this spring.

Mrs. Gaither L. Jones of Beaumont, Texas, will leave tonight for her home after a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian M. Lanier on Missionary Ridge.
