ANSWERS: 1. Iowa/Minnesota. The trophy is a bronze statue of a pig. 2. Missouri/Iowa State. Before the 1959 game, it was discovered that the phones the coaches used to communicate with their coaches in the press box were wired so the teams could hear what the other side’s coaches were saying. The trophy depicts an old rotary telephone (painted half yellow for Missouri and half red for ISU) on a wooden base. 3. Alabama/Auburn. This trophy started in 1948. It is presented by the president of the school’s Omicron Delta Kappa honor society chapter (hence, the “ODK” of the trophy’s name). 4. Nevada/UNLV. This trophy began in 1969. It is a replica of a 19th century Howitzer cannon that accompanied John C. Fremont on an expedition into what is now the state of Nevada. 5. TCU/SMU. The trophy dates back to the 1950s, when, while tailgating, a SMU fan was frying some frog legs. A TCU fan proposed that the fan of the team that won the game get the pan and eat the frog legs. The SMU fan agreed and lost his pan when TCU was victorious. 6. Texas /Oklahoma. This trophy, which dates back to 1941, is one of three associated with the Longhorns-Sooners rivalry. 7. Notre Dame/USC. This trophy began in 1926, making it one of the oldest. 8. Michigan State/Indiana. The trophy, originated in 1950, is for one of the most lopsided rivalries in college football. 9. Air Force/Army/Navy. The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy is awarded to the academy that beats the other two academies. If each team wins one of the two games, the team that won the trophy the previous year keeps it. 10. Ole Mississippi/Mississippi State. The “Egg Bowl,” named so because the trophy is a replica of an older football that resembled an egg more than a modern oblong football.
