Free 3 Sisters Music Festival returns

An abundance of bluegrass entertainment will be showcased Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6 during the sixth annual 3 Sisters Music Festival, hosted by Fletcher Bright Company and produced by Chattanooga Presents. Held at Ross’s Landing, the free event will feature the top names in contemporary and traditional bluegrass.

The event begins on Friday at 6 p.m. with music by local bluegrass favorites the Dismembered Tennesseans, followed by the gospel veterans Dailey & Vincent at 6:50 p.m., Blue Highway at 8:10 p.m., and the renowned bluegrass jam band Yonder Mountain String Band at 9:30 p.m.

With its lineup of acoustic instruments, Yonder might look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance, but it has created its own music that transcends any genre. As band member Dave Johnston points out, “What could be more pure than making your own music?”

Beginning at noon on Saturday, local band Bluetastic Fangrass, led by Louis Wamp, will kick off a full day of bluegrass entertainment as the 3 Sisters Festival continues. Lone Mountain Band will take the stage at 1 p.m., followed by the Dismembered Tennesseans at 2 p.m., Berklee College of Music Fiddlers at 3 p.m., Della Mae at 4 p.m., Keller & The Keels at 5:30 p.m., Steep Canyon Rangers at 7 p.m. and the Travelin’ McCourys beginning at 8:30 p.m. Although raised by their father, traditional bluegrass legend, Del McCoury, the Travelin’ McCourys are considered 21st Century musical pilgrims.

Beer, food and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets; however, no outside food or beverages will be allowed. This event is sponsored by Fletcher Bright Company and the City of Chattanooga. For more information, visit www.3SistersBluegrass.com or call 423-265-0771.
