Through Aug. 31

Free fitness class continues

Outdoor Chattanooga and Greenlife Grocery will continue to host its free public fitness class using the PX90 and Insanity programs through the end of the month. The class will take place Thursdays at 6 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park. Instructor Paul Mason has geared the class toward people of all fitness levels. Raft for the Cure

Join Wildwater for a Raft for the Cure whitewater trip on the Ocoee River at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the trip will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. A reception will follow the trip.

Southern Brewers Festival

Big River Grille will host the 18th annual Southern Brewers Festival from 2 p.m. to midnight at Ross’s Landing in downtown Chattanooga. All proceeds will benefit Kids on the Block. Visit www.southernbrewersfestival.org for a list of the breweries that will be there, the music acts that will be performing and the vendors that will be giving out free stuff.

History Center presents Nicely Tour

The Chattanooga History Center will present a walking tour based on a section of Maury Nicely’s “Chattanooga Walking Tour and Historic Guide” at 7 p.m. The History Center’s executive director and historian, Dr. Daryl Black, will serve as guide. He will meet registered participants at the south end of the Walnut Street Bridge. Pre-registration is required by Aug. 27. The walk will wind by significant Civil War sites, the site of a manufacturing company chartered in 1847 and several early 20th century residences that remain on the Bluff. The tour will include pauses to talk about points of interest and will last about an hour. For more information, or to register, call 423-265-3247.

Chattanooga Technology Convergence Showcase

InfoSystems will host an afternoon of technology conversations and demonstrations. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a complementary lunch and keynote address by Kim Lawrence of Decosimo CPA titled “Why 2012 is the Best Year to Invest in Technology.”

Lawrence will discuss how enhancements to bonus depreciation have made 2012 a good year to take advantage of tax benefits. The interactive demos will begin at 1 p.m., with IBM, NetApp, InfoSystems and others demonstrating smart Wi-Fi technology, audit and analysis utilities, backup, storage and replication software, real-time compression technology, cloud entry and other business technologies.

Woody Guthrie tribute/Community Kitchen benefit

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 175 will hold an open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Noted actor Randy Noojin will present his one-hour solo show, “Hard Travelin’ With Woody,” at 6 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public, although donations to the Community Kitchen will be accepted.  Reservations are requested by Aug. 28. Refreshments will be provided. The IBEW Local 175 is located at 3922 Volunteer Drive.

Attention antique clock and watch collectors

The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors will hold its annual mid-south regional meet at the Hamilton County Convention & Trade Center. A free exhibit featuring over 50 antique clocks from the 1800s will be on display on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A guided walking tour of the exhibit will take place Sept. 1 at 11:30 p.m. A lecture designed for the general public titled “The Art and Science of Collecting Antique Clocks” will take place Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m. Finally, the society will hold a free “Antique Roadshow” for the public on Sept. 1 between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Take your clocks and watches for a free evaluation by their experts.

Crabtree Farms’ fall plant sale

Crabtree Farms will hold its annual fall plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. People looking for the perfect fall plants for their backyard or community garden will be able to purchase plants started in Crabtree’s greenhouses, check out vendor booths from local artisans, and attend free workshops taught by Crabtree’s Joel Houser. The event will also provide an opportunity for people to ask questions, get advice and meet others in the community who are making the choice to grow their own! All ages are welcome.
