GCAR Timeline




1912

Chattanooga Real Estate Exchange established with Noah Hamilton Grady as president. Later became known as Real Estate Board of Chattanooga.

1944

Name changed to Chattanooga Board of Realtors.

1956

Dorothy Hicks hired as executive vice president and first office opened in the Jackson building. Multiple Listing Service established with John R. “Jack” McGauley as president.

1975

June Kempson succeeds Dorothy Hicks as executive vice president. Offices moved to Pioneer Bank building.

1976

First female president – Katherine Bible.

1979

Offices move from Pioneer Bank Building to new headquarters on Amnicola Highway.

1987

Seventy-fifth anniversary celebrated and William A. Moore, president of the National Association of Realtors, speaks at the special event.

1989

Name changed to Chattanooga Association of Realtors (CAR).

1992

Francie Ryder succeeds June Kempson as executive officer.

1997

CAR and Northwest Georgia Board of Realtors merge and establishes the Northwest Georgia Council of the CAR. New logo introduced.

2002

Ninetieth anniversary celebrated at Council Fire.

2004

CAR builds Habitat house. The goal was to raise $45,000 in 45 minutes to build a Habitat house in 45 days. The grand total was $112,000 – enough to build two homes and start a third.

2005

CAR completes second Habitat house.

2007

CAR builds new headquarters to accommodate the Realtor members’ growing needs. Revamped logo.

2010

The Chattanooga Association of Realtors name changed to The Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors (GCAR).
