Scenic Bear Trace will serve as the venue of competition in Rotary Club of Chattanooga Hamilton Place’s annual Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament. The charitable organization has scheduled the event for May 16. Local restaurant Texas Roadhouse will kick off the day with lunch at 11:30 a.m.; the tournament proper will begin at 1 p.m.
Participants in the four-person select shot tournament will be competing for a variety of prizes. Sinking a hole-in-one on hole eight could land one golfer a 2012 Nissan courtesy of Hunt Nissan. Prizes will also be awarded for closest to pin on all par threes, the longest drive on hole 17, and free gas for the team placing last.
In a select shot tournament, each player hits a tee, and then the group selects the best shot. The other three players pick up their golf balls and hit from the best lie. The team repeats this process until the ball is holed out. Golfers may improve their lie anywhere on the golf course within one clue length, but no nearer to the hole. Men play from blue tee markers, seniors play from white tee markers and ladies play from red tee markers.

All proceeds will support the Rotary Club’s humanitarian projects and scholarships, which include: eradicating polio; providing winter coats for children; providing car seats for kids; providing annual scholarships to deserving Chattanooga State and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students; funding the annual Christmas party at Chambliss Children’s Home; supporting Chattanooga Food Bank’s backpack program; funding the “Shop with a Cop” program at Christmas; providing a water tank for a city in Mexico; providing water purification systems for homes in Peru; and more.
