Chattanooga youth to experience a world of culture

The Chattanooga Chapter of CISV is recruiting for Summer 2012 programs. Approximately 25 Chattanooga youth and adults will be participating in CISV’s Summer Programs globally. CISV International was established in 1951 as a non-profit organization that offers children and adults the opportunity to learn about other cultures and form friendships with people from around the world.

The Chattanooga Chapter was established in 1977. CISV is an educational organization dedicated to fostering world peace through promoting international understanding and cross-cultural friendships. CISV is not affiliated with any religious or political organizations.

Each summer, CISV Chattanooga sends up to seven delegations of at least four youth each to CISV programs across the world. CISV’s programs are for children ages 11-18.

For four weeks in June and July 2012, CISV will be sending two delegations of 11-year-olds to CISV villages in Buskerud, Norway and Miami County, Ohio. At each village, delegations of 11-year-olds (two boys, two girls, and an adult leader) from 12 countries will live together for four weeks while learning about each other.

Twelve and thirteen year olds are invited to apply for an Interchange program in Berlin, Germany. The Chattanooga delegation will travel to Berlin in July 2012 for two weeks and return to host the German delegation in Chattanooga for two weeks.

A delegation of 15-year-olds (two boys, two girls and an adult leader) will participate in a CISV Summer Camp in Stockholm, Sweden, July 1 to July 23. This program is similar to the Village, although the delegates have greater leadership roles in the camp.

Applications for all positions are due by February 1, 2012. For more information, call 423-693-0185 or email to cisvchattanooga@gmail.com. More information about CISV can be found at www.cisvusa.org.
