50 years ago...




What was happening in Chattanooga in 1962? Saturday, Jan. 6. New industries and expansions for existing plants calling for an investment of $23,473,808 were announced in Chattanooga during the past 12 months, reveal the estimates of business activities in 1961 released by Earl Platt, who served as chairman of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee during the year.

Robert Elmore Saturday announced he has resigned as general manager of Lake Chickamauga Resort, effective January 13. After a short vacation, he’ll announce his new position. Elmore is past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Sunday, Jan. 7

Squire Charles Taylor, 86, retired railroader, real estate man and leader in Republican politics in Chattanooga, died Sunday morning in a local hospital. Taylor once served as a member of the Hamilton County Quarterly Court, was chairman of the finance committee, was a former member of the county school board, and was a member of the Election Commission.
