Live on Stage: Emperor’s New Clothes

Chattanooga Theatre Centre 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM.  By Maria Chattin-Carter and the cast. Festival season is upon the land and the narcissistic emperor needs new duds. “Have a Seat” at Ensemble Theatre

Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga (ETC) will present their original, experimental theatre piece “Have a Seat” December 2 - 18; Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m and Sundays 6:30 p.m.  Performances will take place in the St. Andrews Center, 1918 Union Avenue.

Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Kayak Trip

Outdoor Chattanooga will host an annual kayak tour of the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge beginning at 10 a.m. This trip offers participants a unique view of the annual Sandhill Crane migration, as well as chances to watch the resident population of Bald Eagles, Osprey, and assorted waterfowl up close. Cost is $35 per person and includes all kayaking gear and transportation to and from Greenway Farm. Reservations are required. Torah Covers, Sacred Textiles on Exhibit

Exhibit reception, Thurs., Dec. 15 5:30 p.m. Torah Covers, Sacred Textiles exhibit will be on display at the Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace Road, through January 13, 2012.  The exhibit is comprised of 24 covers, are on loan from synagogues from Florida to New York Chattanooga’s three local congregations— Beth Sholom (Orthodox), B’nai Zion (Conservative) and Mizpah (Reform)—and from various artists. The Speakeasy Revue

Christian J. Collier and Mark “Porkchop” Holder will be joining forces again on December 17th at the Moccasin Bend Brewing Company (4015 Tennessee Ave.) in St. Elmo. For over a year, the two have been responsible for the Strange Bedfellows shows at the Brewery. This time, however, they are hosting The Speakeasy Revue, a unique open-mic night showcasing an eclectic blend of poetry/spoken word and music.

The Speakeasy debuted in 2009 and has been facilitated and hosted by Collier. Over the past two years, the open-mic has had a unique and diverse array of readers and performers, including multiple Pushcart Prize nominees and even acclaimed comedian Doug Stanhope.

Chattanooga Trekkers Cloudland Canyon Hike

The Chattanooga Trekkers family hiking group will host a 4.8 mile hike on the West Rim Loop Trail of Cloudland Canyon State Park (GA) on Sat., Dec. 17, beginning at 12 noon, EST. The trail is moderately difficult with spectacular views of the canyon from several points. A shorter option hike will be available for families who don’t want to do the entire loop. Wauhatchie Trail Race 2011

Chattanooga Arboretum & Nature Center, 400 Garden Rd. at 9:30 am. $40.00 by Dec. 14. The course is a hilly 6.7 miles of gravel/dirt roads and rough double track trails on the lower slopes of Lookout Mountain. The elevation change between the low point (the start/finish) and the high point of the course is 410 feet. This race involves steep up and down on trails covered with leaves, rocks and tree limbs. Do not run this race unless you have trained on trails. For more info: chattanoogatrackclub.org.

Creative Discovery Museum

There will be no Chattanooga Gas Family Free Night this month at Creative Discovery Museum. Instead, there will be two free days! Wednesday, December 21 and Thursday, December 22 the museum is opening to the public free of charge. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make a splash in RiverPlay. Create a masterpiece in Arts Alley. Dig the dinos in Excavation Station. Enjoy art lessons, science demos, a drawing for a free membership, guests from other organizations such as Project Ready for School and more!
