Saturday, November 18

U.S. District Judge Frank W. Wilson Friday admitted 16 persons to American citizenship at an impressive and patriotic proceeding in his court. The new citizens hailed from nine different countries.

Sunday, November 19

E’Con Carpet Mills, Inc., will build a $500,000 plant to greatly increase its production of tufted carpet, A.J. Dewitt, president, announced Saturday. Construction will start immediately on a tract located in the Stone Fort Land Co. Industrial park in the Riverside Drive-Stuart Street area.

Monday, November 20

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Monday launched its 9th annual Christmas operation, “Toys for Tots.” Capt. Robert A. Applewhite, commanding officer of the 1st 105-mm Howitzer Battery, urges that Chattanoogans support this cause by contributing new or usable toys. Last year, over 7,500 toys were distributed to more than 2,500 children who otherwise would have had a toyless Christmas.

Tuesday, November 21

Hamilton County Tuesday sold $3,000,000 in school bonds at an interest rate of 3.3118884 percent, the lowest in ten years. A syndicate headed by Northern Trust Co. of Chicago was the successful bidder on the bonds, the last of a $7,000,000 issue approved by the county voters in November 1960.

Wednesday, November 22

The Chattanooga Gas Co. directors Tuesday approved a $450,000 construction and expansion program to be carried out in the 1962 fiscal year, S.V. O’Lenic, president, announced.

Thursday, November 23

Fire companies No. 5 and No. 8 will move into the new fire hall at Vance Avenue and Willow Street on or about December 1 if everything is ready, Commissioner Dunlap said.

Friday, November 24

“Send me no flowers,” the Little Theater’s second production of the current season, opens Friday at 8:15 p.m. at the Eighth Street Playhouse. The comedy, under the direction of James Canon, will continue through next week.
