Saturday, November 11

Veterans Day was ob­served by Summers-White­head Post 14 of the American Legion with a memorial program at Patten Parkway. Rev. Livy L. Pope, pastor of the East Lake Baptist Church and a major in the Air Force Reserve, was the principal speaker.

Sunday, November 12

In the first definite step of its kind by a Chattanooga area school, McCallie School has announced that a fallout shelter big enough to house 400 persons will be built on its campus next spring.

Monday, November 13

Mrs. Louise Weglin Fassnacht, 99, widow of Andrew Fassnacht, pioneer Chattanooga businessman, died Monday afternoon at her home in St. Elmo. Her husband established a carriage and wagon business in Chattanooga in 1874, a forerunner of A. Fassnacht  & Sons, Inc., Auto Repair Specialists. Born in Switzerland, Mrs. Fassnacht came to America with her parents in 1862, and for many years lived in the Swiss Colony near Beersheba Springs, Tenn.

Tuesday, November 14

The 8th Kiwanis Club in the Greater Chattanooga Area was chartered in ceremonies Tuesday night in the Provident Building.

Wednesday, November 15

Banks in Chattanooga will distribute $965,826 to members of 1961 Christmas Clubs, the Chattanooga Clearing House Association revealed in figures released Wednesday.

Thursday, November 16

On Wednesday the County Council approved a contract under which Hamilton County will acquire for the state and federal governments rights-of-way to extend the freeway from its present northward leg to Signal Mountain Boulevard.

Friday, November 17

H. Clay Evans Johnson, president of Interstate Life & Accident Insurance Co., and civic leader, has accepted the chairmanship of a citizens’ committee to promote urban renewal, which is being organized. The group will be known as the Golden Gateway Committee, E.Y. Chapin III, president of the Chamber of Commerce, announced.
