Saturday, September 23

Ground breaking ceremonies to start construction of Eastgate Center of Brainerd Road will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the site, Jay Solomon, vice-president of Independent Theaters, Inc., announced Saturday. The ceremonies and a buffet luncheon to follow are being sponsored by Independent and Miller Bros. Company, who will have a large department store in the development.

Tuesday, September 26

The University of Chattanooga has already registered a record 1,555 day students for the first semester of the current term – with registration still going on. Last year, 1,367 day students registered, showing a gain of 188 so far this year.

Wednesday, September 27

Plans were made Wed­nes­day to fill the Rogers Theater to capacity for the seminar of American Strategy to be held October 26. The Seminar is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chattanooga, and experts of national prominence will appear on the program. Talks will cover all aspects of the cold war and will answer the question, “What Can I Do?” as an American citizen to beat the Communists.
