Saturday, August 26

Company B of the 844th Engineers Construction Battalion will be called to active duty October 1 for an indefinite period, it was reported from Washington Saturday. The company of about 100 men commanded by Capt. Robert C. Lahiere, deputy Hamilton County coroner, will report to Fort Rucker, Ala.

Monday, August 28

Edwards & LeBron, rated as Chattanooga’s second oldest business and founded by E.P. Durando in 1869 will close its doors Thursday. Ben E. Caldwell, attorney and owner of the jewelry store announced that a new organization, Jewels, Inc., formed by four businessmen has purchased the remaining assets and will open for business about September 10 in a new store at 511 Georgia Avenue.

Wednesday, August 30

Fallout shelter facili-ties, complete with food, and supplies, are being prepared for pupils of the Lookout Mountain Elemen-tary School. Shelter area is being prepared both in the basement of the school and in the nearby Look-out Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Friday, September 1

The 15th annual Plum Nelly clothesline art show has been set for October 14-15 at Miss Fannie Mennen’s home, Plum Nelly, Ga.
