The Tivoli Theater, the center of Chattanooga’s entertainment world for 40 years and one of the South’s most beautiful motion picture houses, will close August 17. George Deavours, manager for Wilby-Kincey Service Corp, operator of the Tivoli announced.

The University of Chattanooga has received an anonymous gift to establish a series of Kesse Lectures in the fine arts, in recognition of the community contributions of Dr. and Mrs. W.S. Keese.

Homes served by the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga continue to lead the nation in average home consumption of electricity and the homes here are well above the average in the use of large electrical appliances, according to the annual Major Electrical Homes Use Survey of the Electric Light and Power Magazine.

County Judge Frost and Mayor Olgiati requested civil defense officials to make a survey of the city hall and county court house to determine areas that should be used for shelter purposes.
