Deals to mellow out to

Mellow Mushroom offers weekly deals on their pizza and drinks and events that encourage social gathering time. Lunch specials for those looking for a quick slice before returning to work are affordable and filling. The Tuesday Trivia Night is currently the big draw that offers prizes for winning teams. - Erica Tuggle
With school starting back, everyone is looking for deals to help ease the pain of buying the long list of school supplies. Luckily, this week I found two great deals for mid-week entertainment.
First off, I took advantage of the little gem Chattanooga has in the Regal Hamilton Place 10-17 cinema behind Hamilton Place Mall. This cinema has always been a great way to see a movie on the big screen and not feel shafted by paying upwards of $9 for a movie that may not even be worth renting. Although, some of the big name movies lag a couple of weeks before reaching this theater, I can wait, and by doing so, I see a movie at more than half the cost.
The Regal 10-17 offers the consistent price of $3 for any of their movies, any time, which is less than renting a movie at the video store. If that wasn’t enough of a deal, by signing up for their free Regal Crown Club card, you can receive their featured candy for $1 on Mondays and a small popcorn for $1 on Tuesdays. Time at the movies and treats for under $5? I’m sold.
When I visited the theatre on a Tuesday, I saw the movie “Predators.” I’ll admit, I’ve never seen a Predator film before, but nonetheless, I enjoyed the story and the actor’s performance. The ending was a bit strange, but the flick wasn’t a total flop and more than worth what I paid to see it. In an age where the exploitation of ticket and popcorn sales rise higher and higher to pay the budget of films that aren’t worthy of their price tag, it is good to know I have this little theater to enjoy the simple pleasure of taking in a film with other patrons.
For dinner, I decided to visit the downtown Mellow Mushroom location that has been peaking my interest for quite some time now with their deals during the weekdays. Tuesday is Trivia Night at Mello Mushroom where slices of their cheese pizza are $3, their Budweiser bottles are $2 and Modavi wines are $3. Now that Mellow Mushroom is open till midnight, the trivia night, which runs from 9 p.m. to midnight, is perfect for those after movie munchies. The Mellow Mushroom also offers a movie deal of their own for those who are looking to see a newer movie in theaters. This includes two tickets to the Majestic 12 Theatre next door to the restaurant, a medium specialty pizza and two beverages, all for $35.
The trivia night itself is perfect for enjoying the amenities of the Mellow Mushroom. The atmosphere during this night is so friendly and fun, with music playing and groups huddled together on the trivia questions, that even though I opted out of trivia that night, I still had a great time. Add in the slices of Mellow Mushroom that are made with spring water dough and the most tasty melted cheese to make for a real mid-week treat.
The prizes during trivia night included $10 to $25 Mellow bucks, and one group received a trivia board game and a VHS of the movie “Gremlins.”
The Mellow Mushroom has drink promotions every day for a quick drink after work or for weekend visits. Their lunch specials are always a winner, with $7.75 earning you a slice with one topping, salad or soup and a drink. Even if the deals don’t reel you in, the light and fun
atmosphere of Mellow Mush-room will bring you back. I see families, teenagers, singles and couples in “the shroom” every time I visit. It is a place where everyone can have a great slice of pie and enjoy some televised sports or just the ability to get out and mingle.
Other favorites of mine at Mellow Mushroom are the gluten free pizza, their delicious Tempeh sandwiches, the Tomato Bisque soup, the calzones and their Capri salad. Really, all of it is good. Getting there is cinch because the CARTA free electric shuttle will drop you off right beside them.
The Mellow Mushroom is now offering a Beer Club, where if you try 100 of their brews, you will get an engraved mug, plaque and t-shirt. Not all these beers have to be consumed at once, thankfully, but with 40 different beers on tap at Mellow Mushroom, trying all of them and the other varieties is a fun way to enjoy their selection and earn prizes, too.
The deals at the Regal Hamilton Place 10-17 theater and Mellow Mushroom will keep your pocketbook happy and make for a nice way to break up the week until the glorious coming of Friday night.
