Chattanooga author showcase to feature attorney Sam Elliott

Chattanooga is home to a wealth of literary talent in many genres. Local attorney Sam Elliott has written extensively about the Civil War and expressed his love for history by authoring biographies of local men who took part in the conflict, including “John C. Brown of Tennessee,” “Soldier of Tennessee” and “Isham G. Harris of Tennessee.”

To raise awareness and celebrate Elliott’s achievements – as well as the accomplishments of eight other local authors – Southern Lit Alliance will host the Chattanooga Author Showcase Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Stove Works Museum (1250 E. 13th Street).

A reception will provide opportunities to talk with Elliott, purchase his books and hear him read excerpts from his works.

The event is free, although Southern Lit is encouraging donations to support its programs.

Elliott practices primarily in the field of litigation and local government representation with the firm Gearhiser, Peters, Lockaby, Cavett & Elliott.

He has been a member of the Tennessee Historical Commission since 2005. He was also a nominee for Southern Lit’s 2021 Local Distinguished Author Award.

The other authors Southern Lit will showcase at its event represent many genres, including fiction, memoir, essay, poetry, short story, young adult and children’s books.
