Gardenhire says new grant will boost Hamilton County’s COVID-19 response

State Sen. Todd Gardenhire says this week’s announcement that Hamilton County will receive a $5.6 million Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Detection Grant will boost local COVID-19 response efforts.

Governor Bill Lee and the Financial Stimulus Accountability Group announced the Tennessee Local Government Reimbursement Program’s Coronavirus Relief Fund grant to help local governments respond to the pandemic.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Bo Watson is a member of the Financial Stimulus Accountability Group.

“These funds will be a tremendous help in our local efforts to increase our testing capacity and improve tracing,” Gardenhire says. “Testing is a vital part of stemming back the pandemic and getting our economy fully reopened.”

Hamilton County will also receive $318,100 in a Laboratory Testing Support Grant.

The Tennessee Local Government Reimbursement Program comes in addition to the $210 million in grants for county and municipal governments the General Assembly approved for Tennessee’s fiscal year 2021 budget.

“We will continue to push for additional funding for our local COVID-19 response as these relief funds are distributed,” Gardenhire says.
