Unum charitable giving exceeds $3M

Unum and its employees contributed $3.7 million last year to nonprofit organizations throughout southeast Tennessee. In addition, employees in Unum’s Chattanooga office volunteered 13,000 hours to local causes.

Unum supports public education programs that help students gain access to opportunities and educators engage students in innovative and creative approaches to learning. Other areas of community support include health and wellness and arts and culture.

“For decades, Unum has placed a special emphasis on public education through our community partnerships,” says Liz Ahmed, executive vice president of people and communications for Unum. “We believe preparing children for the future is the foundation of strong communities, and that begins with proactive engagement between education and business.”

The Hamilton County School System and Public Education Foundation are two of Unum’s biggest education partnerships. Other beneficiaries include Siskin Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County.

“Unum has been an incredible partner to the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy, providing funding to support many initiatives that offer opportunities for our students,” says Elaine Swafford, executive director of Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy. “But Unum’s support doesn’t end with their financial commitment to the school. Unum’s employees have a passion for improving the lives of our girls, and their investment of time is paying dividends as our girls are inspired to succeed.”

Unum provides financial protection benefits in the workplace such as disability, life, accident and critical illness insurance.
