Events: Take aim and try archery




Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park, will host free indoor archery sessions for all ages and skill levels every Wednesday in February and March, 3:30-6 p.m. With a focus on the fundamentals of archery and with an emphasis on safety rules, the sessions follow the National Archery in Schools format and procedures.

All sessions will be walk-in (drop in any time during any session) and open to ages 5 and up. No reservation or prior experience will be required to participate. All equipment and instruction will be provided.

St. Paul’s presents David Leisner

Revive the lost art of the love letter

Popular romance novelist Anna Harrington will offer her tips on how to write a love letter during a Passionate Pen Workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 5 p.m., at the Arts Building, 301 E. 11th St. After the presentation, Harrington will help attendees create their own offering for a sweetheart, family member or friend. Stop-smoking classes

On Thursday, Feb. 7, a new, free session of Freedom from Smoking will begin at CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga. The class will be offered every Thursday for seven weeks, 4:30-6 p.m., in the private dining room at Entrance B. Call 423 495-7778 to register. 2525 DeSales Avenue.

Women’s Policy Conference

The second annual Statewide Women’s Policy Conference will take place Feb. 7-8 at the Westin Chattanooga, 801 Pine St., in downtown Chattanooga. Speakers will include Elyse Shaw, senior research associate for the Institute for Women’s Policy Research; Ouleye Ndoye Warnock, senior human trafficking fellow for Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms; Virginia Harrison, national president for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women; and others. 100 Black Women presents Mardi Gras Ball

The Chattanooga chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will present its annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The organization will use the funds raised to fund scholarships and continue operating its Sista-to-Sista Mentoring Program at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

U.S. Navy Band Tour coming to Soddy-Daisy

The U.S. Navy Concert Band will perform at Soddy-Daisy High School Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. The Navy Concert Band will present an array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions and modern wind ensemble repertoire. The performance will be free and open to the public.

Con Nooga returns

Chattanooga’s largest multi-fandom convention is returning to the Chattanooga Convention Center with over 160,000 square feet of fandom fun. Con Nooga will open at noon on Friday, Feb. 22 , and continue through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23. Admission badges may be purchased at the door. More information at www.connooga.com.

Chattanooga State to present ‘Carmina Burana’

Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will be presented in the Humanities Theatre at Chattanooga State Community College on Thursday, Feb. 28, and Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will feature Chattanooga State’s music department, Choral Arts of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Ballet and Heritage High School Concert Choir. Chambliss Center for Children’s Mardi Gras Gala

Chambliss Center for Children will host its seventh annual Mardi Gras Gala on Friday, March 1, 7-11 p.m. at Bessie Smith Hall. The evening will begin with jazz piano and hurricanes in Preservation Hall. Guest will then stroll down Bourbon Street to receive their beads and preview the silent auction. The event will continue in the French Quarter with Dixieland jazz by the Ralph Miller Quartet, a late-night dance party and a parade. The evening will feature Cajun-inspired fare.
