Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett has appointed Tim Davis as the new deputy chief of corrections for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, bringing more than 25 years of law enforcement and corrections leadership experience to the role.
Davis joins HCSO after a career with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office in California, where he retired as assistant sheriff overseeing the state’s fifth-largest jail system. In that position, he managed multiple facilities housing more than twice the daily inmate population of the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
His background includes extensive training in jail operations, security, emergency response and inmate classification. Over the years, Davis has served as a jail training officer, security enhancement training team officer, less-lethal munitions instructor, emergency response team leader and classification deputy. Leadership roles have included sergeant of jail administration and training, sergeant of the internal affairs unit and command positions at both male and female detention facilities.
He later supervised Support Services, which encompassed the Jail Programs Unit, Re-entry Services, Classification and Gang Intelligence and the Custody Adult Supervision Unit.
Davis earned his Associate of Arts degree from Ohlone College in 1991. He and his wife, Michelle, have dedicated a combined 50 years to public service in law enforcement and are parents to five children, two of whom also serve in law enforcement.

TSCPA awards scholarships to 121 UTC students
Twelve University of Tennessee at Chattanooga accounting students are among 121 statewide recipients of scholarships awarded by the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants for the 2025-26 academic year.
The TSCPA Educational & Memorial Foundation is providing $280,000 in total awards to students attending colleges and universities across Tennessee. Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, professor recommendations, leadership skills and financial need.
