Children receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger have a new place to play, relax and spend time with their families after hospital leaders unveiled a new outdoor playground designed specifically for pediatric patients.
The Children’s Hospital Land of Enchantment, known as CHLOE, is open on the third floor of Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. The outdoor space is designed to give children facing serious illnesses an opportunity to leave their hospital rooms while remaining in a safe, accessible environment.
The playground features colorful play equipment, flowers and murals celebrating Chattanooga. Hospital officials say the space was designed to accommodate children with limited mobility and those using medical equipment so more patients can enjoy time outdoors during their treatment.
Erlanger President and CEO Jim Coleman says the project was made possible through community support and private donations.
“When a family is going through the hardest days of their lives, this place gives them a few minutes to be a family again,” Coleman says.
Major contributors included Chris and Emma Fuller, Tripp and Barbara Brown, James and Jane Pratt, Sam and Carol Campbell, PlayCore and Barn Nursery. Local artist Olivia Reckert created the murals featured throughout the space.
Debbie Spielman, CEO of Children’s Hospital and Women’s Services at Erlanger, says the playground reflects the community’s commitment to supporting children and families during their hospital stay.
