Newsmakers: Mathis assumes Aladdin ownership

Cindy Mathis has assumed ownership of Aladdin Printing & Copying following the recent passing of founder Ginger Weeks.

Weeks founded the locally owned print shop in November 1996 after acquiring Bee Line Printing & Copying on Chestnut Street.

Mathis, who has more than 25 years of industry experience, worked alongside Weeks for many years and played a key role in the company’s daily operations. Her transition into ownership is intended to ensure continuity while preserving the culture and standards established over nearly three decades.

“Ginger built something special for Chattanooga,” Mathis says. “Our commitment is to continue serving this community with the same integrity, attention to detail and personal service that have defined Aladdin since Day One.”

The ownership transition was completed in early 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

Covenant’s Barboza wins national honor

Covenant Logistics driver Nick Barboza has been named one of five national winners of the Truckload Carriers Association’s Professional Driver of the Year award, one of the truckload industry’s highest honors.

Presented annually by the Truckload Carriers Association, the award recognizes drivers who demonstrate exceptional safety performance, leadership, integrity and commitment to the profession. Barboza was selected from a nationwide pool of drivers representing carriers across North America.

Barboza, now in his 28th year with Covenant Logistics, is among the company’s most experienced drivers. He’s a member of Covenant’s 120 Club and has achieved 3 million consecutive accident-free miles, a milestone reached by only a small percentage of professional drivers.

Barboza grew up in Mexico and began working on his family’s farm at age nine, developing a work ethic that later carried into his professional driving career.

Barboza and his wife are also foster parents and have opened their home to more than 30 children in recent years.

“Nick embodies the very best of our industry and our company,” says Misti Olszewski, vice president of enterprise safety for Covenant Logistics. “To be named one of only five national Drivers of the Year while achieving 3 million consecutive accident-free miles is extraordinary. What makes Nick truly special is his heart for service, both on the road and at home.”

The award was presented during the Truckload Carriers Association’s 2026 Annual Convention, held Feb. 28–March 3 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center near Orlando, Florida.

Green | Spaces welcomes three team members

Chattanooga nonprofit Green | Spaces has added three new team members to support its sustainability and workforce development programs.

Ellery Jacobs has joined the organization as director of workforce development for the Understory program. Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Jacobs earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and geography from the University of Richmond. She previously worked with the National Ecological Observatory Network, collecting environmental data at locations including Yellowstone National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Jacobs moved to Chattanooga in 2025 and is focused on expanding outdoor career opportunities and connecting people with nature.

LaDarrius Mitchell, a Chattanooga native and father of four, has been named field operations manager for the Build It Green program. Mitchell says he looks forward to building new skills, strengthening community connections and contributing to projects that benefit local families and neighborhoods.

Noland Rivers has joined Build It Green as administrative coordinator. Rivers attended Chattanooga State Community College through a dual-enrollment program before earning a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2023. After discovering the Build It Green program at a 2025 job fair, he joined the organization and now works on identifying tools and strategies that improve building performance and support sustainable construction.

Green | Spaces says the three hires bring a mix of environmental expertise, technical skills and community ties to help advance its mission of promoting sustainability and green workforce development in the Chattanooga area.

Habitat Chattanooga names two leaders

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga has promoted Ryan Weseloh to assistant director and hired Jeff Giere as director of development.

Weseloh joined Habitat Chattanooga in 2023 as director of development. During his tenure, he led the nonprofit’s signature fundraising events, secured grant funding to support programs and oversaw development strategy and operations aimed at expanding the organization’s impact across the city.

As assistant director, Weseloh now serves as second-in-command to the CEO and will help lead the management, coordination and effectiveness of Habitat Chattanooga’s programs, operations and internal systems. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, running and spending time in the yard with his family.

Giere previously spent three years with United Way of Greater Chattanooga as a relationship manager. In his new role, he will focus on donor cultivation and corporate development.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Giere volunteers at Silverdale Baptist Church. He and his wife are raising two children, and he enjoys playing golf and basketball in his spare time.
