Girls Preparatory School has announced plans to construct a new athletic field house on its lower campus, with work scheduled to begin in late summer.

School leaders said the project is part of the school’s long-term master planning efforts and aligns with its plan to invest in programs, faculty and campus facilities.

The field house project will be funded through donor support and marks the first of several planned facilities initiatives.

The new facility will be created through the renovation and expansion of the school’s current tennis center. Once completed, the fully enclosed field house will feature an open student lounge overlooking the lower field and track, a multipurpose meeting space for presentations and team film review and four temperature-controlled tennis courts for year-round play.

Plans also include dedicated locker rooms and team rooms for cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, softball and track and field athletes; a performance and recovery center focused on personalized care, rehabilitation and injury prevention; and a strength and cardio room designed specifically for female athletes.

The building will house a concession stand and outdoor spectator areas, including expanded green space for tailgating and activities.

A ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled for May 15. School officials anticipate the facility will open in spring 2027.

“As we celebrate our 120th year, this is more than a building project,” says Head of School Megan Cover. “It’s a visible commitment to who we are and who we are becoming – a school that honors our tradition while investing in the future of every girl who walks on our campus.”
